News & Notes from Ms. Kapuchuck!

Dear Families,

This past week was full of energy at MVES! All of our in-person students are doing a fantastic job of maintaining three feet social distancing, wearing their masks, and washing their hands. They have so much excitement for being back together as a whole group rather than split between A groups and B groups.

On Tuesday, we welcomed the First Lady of Virginia, Mrs. Northam and the Secretary of Education, Mr. Qarni to MVES! It was an incredible experience for our school! Mrs. Northam gave me a rosemary plant from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello for the school garden and some of our students will be planting that rosemary as soon as it is warm enough outside! She also gave us some great hands-on science resources. Most importantly, Mrs. Northam and Mr. Qarni were able to see the magic that happens in our classrooms and school on a daily basis. I am so proud of our teachers, staff, and students for the work they do each day.

Speaking of being so proud of our staff, next week (May 3rd-7th) is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week! I can't think of a year in which teachers and staff deserved more appreciation than this year! Please join me in thanking our teachers and staff for their hard work, passion, and dedication to our school and our students!

SOL testing is just around the corner. HLA testing dates have been sent out to all HLA parents. The dates for students learning in person to take their tests are listed below. These tests will help us identify our students' academic needs so that we can design instruction accordingly and provide enrichment and additional support. At MVES, we always strive to make the SOL testing time feel like any other time of the year. We ask our students to try their best as we do everyday! Please support your child by making sure they understand these tests do not impact their grades, rather they will help their teachers know how to best meet their needs in the classroom.
