Updates from the Principal

Greetings Firebird Nation Families -

I hope everyone's week has gone well. We are still on track to have students return for In-Person Learning on January 25th. It is hard to believe that this is just over a week away! The Firebird Nation Staff is excited to again welcome students back into our halls.

Our Elementary colleagues will be letting us know how this next week goes in their buildings. This will help us make any adjustments that may be needed to ensure a smooth transition for our middle schoolers on January 25th. Please remember to review our Return to Learn Plan with your student so that they are familiar with what is required in our daily operations. These processes and procedures are in place for everyone's safety and it is important that the Firebird Nation Community follows these expectations. Masks covering the nose and mouth are still required while at Falcon Middle School. We will also be asking our students to socially distance with their "Firebird Wings" and wash their hands throughout the day.

As we return, we want to emphasize that if a Firebird is not feeling well, showing COVID Symptoms, and/or running a fever, that it is imperative that they stay home. We know that cases may emerge and we want to minimize the possibility of having to quarantine entire classrooms or teams as much as possible. If you are staying home on a day that you should be "In-Person", please let the office know so that we can make sure you are not marked absent. Students can still participate in their classes through E-Learning when they need to stay home.

Be watching for more information next week on Parent Teacher Conferences. Our next set of conferences will take place on Thursday, February 11th, from 4pm - 7pm, and Friday, February 12th from 7:45am - 3:15pm. We will communicate more related to the format and how to sign up for a conference in our newsletter next week. Stay tuned for details!

As a heads up, we will be making an adjustment to our schedule for the week of February 15th. This is due to the school being closed for President's Day on Monday, February 15th. During this week ONLY, we will have A-J cohorts on Tuesday and Wednesday and K-Z cohorts on Thursday and Friday. We will follow the full bell schedule Tuesday through Friday during the week of February 15th. Our normal days for each cohort and weekly schedule will resume the following Monday, February 22nd.

We have a three-day weekend this weekend as Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day...so enjoy the long weekend! We will see all of our students back online Tuesday, January 19th! Have a great Friday and Weekend!

Sincerely,

Brian Smith

Executive Principal

Firebird Athletics Update

Good Afternoon Firebird Families:

I hope that you have all been able to stay safe and well during this unprecedented time. I am reaching out to you today in regards to our Athletic Program at Falcon Middle School. We are looking at bringing athletics back this coming semester, although we are not sure what exactly that will entail at this time.

We need your help! We need some information regarding your opinion on a variety of things, from interest in participating to potential policies which may be enacted to allow for sports to occur. Below you will find a link to a survey. If you have a student who is interested in participating in any of our athletic programs, please complete the form.

This form is not to register for any sport; it is simply a way for us to let the South Metro League know what our community members’ thoughts and interests are. We are trying to gather as much information as possible by January 20th.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the form. If you have further questions, please email me at eforehand@d49.org.

Thank you for your time,

Mrs. Elena Forehand

8th grade Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

Falcon Middle School
