Matt's Monday Memo
November 26, 2018
Good morning all.
What an amazing week that is unique to our setting that allows so many students and former students to connect to each other and to our school. Thanks to all of you that supported the student and community experience of STUCO, decorations, T-day activities, performances at assembly, preschool, bonfire, ChiliFest, and our teams. If you did not get to the Wednesday night community Pep Rally, you missed Jon Clark being introduced and his deserved ovation-it was powerful to witness and a great reminder of the impact we have along the way in our journey as educators. He is a humble man and was reluctant to be introduced to the crowd but it was cleary welcomed by all those in attendance. Game day saw a great crowd that witnessed all the trappings of Selma Field home games: the band sharing their talents, the cheerleaders promoting a supportive environment, and our players competing all the way to the final whistle.
We are now in the part of the year that is a bit of a sprint to finals. We will share a document that lays out the shared expectations and information for everyone. Please let us know if you need any support as we prepare for our students to do their best work.
Best,
Matt

Reminders/Announcements
Just a reminder that if you see any students or outsiders roaming the halls, please contact the main office immediately.
Teachers, remember that final exams are approaching. All teachers must give a final exam. Please see a school calendar for the exam schedule. The purpose of final exams is to evaluate a student’s progress for the semester. The exam shall count for 10-20% of the final course grade, with the exact percentage determined by the department chair. Each teacher must provide to the department chair a copy of his/her final exam. Also, please note that students may not take exams early unless approved by the Assistant Principal. In most cases, we are going to require that the student receive an “I” and make-up the exam at the beginning of second semester. If, for some reason, you are giving an exam other than the time scheduled, you must have approval from the administrator who oversees your department.
For students who are athletes, a grade of incomplete may have a negative impact on their athletic eligibility. If there is a way to avoid giving a student athlete an incomplete, please do so. For example, if a student is missing a major assignment or will miss a final but still has a passing grade without it, then give him the passing grade. If/when they make up the assignment or final, we can submit a grade change to improve their grade.
Don’t forget to check www.statesmensports.com for all athletic updates and scores. Winter sports begin this week.
