St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4, WEEK 7 | 28 NOVEMBER 2019
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Our prayers and thoughts are with a school family and the Stephenson family who both had family members pass away recently. These times are not always easy and the support of friends and family is always much appreciated
Our Year 5 students held their speeches and elections on Monday for the 2020, Year 6 Student Leadership roles. I was extremely impressed with the way the students delivered their speeches and the confidence and thought that was put into them. I would like to thank the students for the effort they put into preparing and delivering their speeches. We will advise students and families of who was elected to the various roles at the school Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday 12 December. Parents will be notified on the Friday before so that they may attend the Mass if they wish. The formal student induction will occur at the start of Term 1 next year. There will also be a special handover ceremony at the Thanksgiving Mass between the 2019 and 2020 Head Boy and Girl.
A reminder that the final school fees for the year have been sent out and if parents are having difficulty paying please make an appointment to see the principal. There are still a number of outstanding accounts. Could families please finalise these as soon as possible.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday 13 December. Students will start school in 2020 on Monday 3 February.

Artist of the Week
India from Year 3 is the Artist of the Week. She was chosen for her outstanding oil pastel art! India's favourite thing about her artwork is that it is really colourful. She likes art because she thinks it’s fun and enjoys colouring in with markers. India is inspired to do art by her uncle as he is very artistic.

2019 SSPW Schools Challange
Thank you to all the amazing St Columba's swimmers at the SSPW Schools Challenge last Saturday. St Columba's performed awesomely, finishing 9th overall. We had some very impressive individual swims, notably from the Year 3’s - Cassandra, was the fastest Year 3 girl for 50 freestyle and placed 3rd overall. Jack and Chayse were 3rd and 4th in the 50 breaststroke, and Chayse placed 4th overall. St Columba's has a bright swimming future.
Our relays also performed spectacularly with both the girls 3/4 and 5/6 relays finishing runner up champions.

Year 3 Visits Kings Park
Year Three's excursion to Kings Park was enjoyed by all. The students took part in the 'From Firesticks to Fireworks' program which supported their learning about Western Australian history. They also explored the Naturescape to connect with nature and appreciate the unique environment. The Year 3's were very fortunate to have Kerry-Ann Winmar join them on the excursion to share her knowledge of Nyungar culture. Thank you to Kerry-Ann and all the parents who volunteered their time on Thursday.
