Mrs. Kelley's 1st Grade Class Newsletter
What a fantastic time we had at the Outdoor Learning Center! We had beautiful weather, although the kiddos felt like it was too hot! But I'm so glad it didn't rain! Thanks for having your children prepared with everything they needed.
This week Homestead teachers and staff are bringing goodies on Monday, May 2nd. We would like to show our appreciation for all the wonderful volunteers at our school! If you have volunteered in ANY capacity this year please come by and have some breakfast goodies in the Homestead Library between 7:45-9:00. WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!!
Please make a note that on May 9th-11th the Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders will be taking the STAAR test. Parents will not be allowed in the building to volunteer or eat lunch with their children. Thank you!

SPECIALS THIS WEEK:
Good job, sweets!
Kids use whiteboards to practice subtraction facts!
Partners work together to study a science reading passage and answer questions about plants.
Our math unit this week was measurement. I think our kids measured every single item in our classroom!
In First Grade our learning goal is to practice measuring with non-standard units, such as connecting cubes, paper clips, and straws.
How many units?
Kids measured books, desks, pencils, even SHOES!
Arriving at the Outdoor Learning Center and heading out for our first nature walk!
Kids look for animal tracks in the woods.
Kids and chaperones strike the trail!
Kids take notes, draw diagrams, and make observations in their Field Journals.
Kids observe worms and pill-bugs.
Checking out the forest floor critters!
No flies or bugs are getting by this ferocious spider! Kids had a BLAST on the GIANT spider web. They took turns role playing predator/prey!
I LOVE these kids. I can't believe First Grade is almost over.
Tuckered out. Ready for the trip back home. What an amazing day! I'm so proud of our kiddos!
