DAVIES HIGH SCHOOL
EAGLES REPORT - FEBRUARY 2024
Honor – Integrity – Pursuit of Excellence
Dear Davies Parents/Guardians,
It is hard to believe, but we are past the half-way mark of the 2023-24 school year. The days are flying by quickly and as we push through the latter half of winter we are beginning our planning for the 2024-25 school year. Currently all 9th - 11th grade students are having conversations with counselors and teachers regarding registration for classes next year. Registration for classes is one of the most important things a high school student does. The decisions on classes selected today plays a large role in their future and future planning for teachers and administration at Davies. If you haven’t already, I strongly encourage all parents and guardians to sit down with your child and talk with them about their choices to ensure they are making the best decisions for their future. Often students have little idea about plans after high school, but it is never too early to start having those conversations. If parents or students have questions about particular classes I encourage them to reach out to a teacher or counselor for help.
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will again be held only one evening this year. Please note that conferences will be held the evening of February 21 from 4:15-8:15. All conferences this spring will be held virtually. A link and sign-up process will be sent out to all parents wanting to reach out to their child’s teachers. I strongly encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity and hope the conferences allow everyone who wants to connect with a teacher the ability to do so.
The month of February brings us to the end of the winter activities season and the start of the playoffs for many of our Eagle teams. This includes numerous musical performances and competitions. I want to wish them all good luck as they wrap up their seasons and I want to invite all our Eagle fans to come out and support those students taking part.
Go Eagles!
Sean Safranski
Assistant Principal (K-Z)

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences 2024 will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams February 21st from 4:15-8:15 pm. The link to sign up will be open from February 7th -February 19th.
Mr. Cody will be sending information when the link to sign up with teachers goes live on February 7th. You will be able to find directions here as well as a video. Please note that the link within the directions will say that no times are available if you click on it before Feb. 7 - 19.EARLY RELEASE DAY - FEBRUARY 16
Fargo Public Schools will release students two hours early from school on February 16 to support the professional development of teachers. The last release days for the school year is April 19.
The early release days allow teachers to gather in an extended Professional Learning Community (PLC) to focus on the students they serve this school year. During these early release days, teachers will analyze data and plan lessons to support students who have yet to grasp current standards and challenge students who have.
The district is committed to providing high-quality education for all students and believes investing in teacher professional development is critical to achieving this goal. By providing teachers with dedicated time to collaborate and learn from one another, Fargo Public Schools is taking an important step toward improving student learning outcomes.
FPS understands that early release days may cause some inconveniences for parents and guardians. However, this is an important step towards improving our teaching practices and benefiting our students' learning outcomes.
Parents are encouraged to contact the school for more information about the early release days and how they will affect their child's schedule. Students will have the opportunity for both breakfast and lunch on the early release days.
Shoutout to the Davies Girls Basketball team for their donations to the Eagle Cupboard located in student services. This cupboard is a resource for families and students in our building who are in need. Donations by the girls included food items, personal hygiene items, and some of the most common things students come in for. Donations like this is what keeps our cupboard filled and going! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
WE NEED YOU!
For the first time, we are experiencing a balance in our Eagles helping Eagles account that will not allow our program to continue. We use this account to fund our Eagles Cupboard with food, personal hygiene, and basic necessities for students and families in need. There has been an increase in the usage of this cupboard and the need for this service. We are unfortunately in uncharted waters as we have never been in a position where we have to actively seek funds to maintain it. While some of you may want to make a contribution of specific items, storage is an issue for us while money in the account allows us to replenish what is needed at that time. If you are able, please consider donating. This program has been a success because of you and we readily recognize it won’t continue without you. Thank you for being apart of our Davies Family.
If you would like to give a monetary donation, you can do so using the below link or attached QR code. It will take you directly to the website to donate. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Sarah Nereson (School Counselor F, M-Sa) 701.446.5613 OR neresos@fargo.k12.nd.us.
GIVING HEARTS DAY - FEB. 8
Giving Hearts Day is coming up fast! Donations can be scheduled today or be given on Giving Hearts Day. Fargo Public Schools Foundation is able to match donations of $10 or more up to $27,000. Thanks to the Dr. Calvin K. Fercho Family Foundation, Milk Made, and Fargo Public Schools Federal Credit Union. Donors can support Davies Eagles Cupboard by placing the school pantry name in the “Special Donation Instructions” box at checkout. Donation link is: https://app.givingheartsday.org/#/charity/42.
Teacher Appreciation Night @ Boys Hockey
Members of the boys Hockey team showed their appreciation to teachers by presenting them with their jersey to wear for the day. Teachers were then recognized during the game on Thursday, January 18.
SAVE THE DATE
ALL Junior students will take the ACT on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 8:00 AM.
Please document this important date on your calendars if you have a junior student.
JUNIORS: This test is FREE to all juniors. Registration for the test is taken care of by Davies High School. Stay tuned for more information as the test date approaches.
If you’d like more information on what taking the ACT will look like, consult this link. It provides great information for examinees. Tasks that need to be completed prior to taking the test will occur AT school and do NOT need to be completed beforehand.
We understand that some students may be considering taking the ACT before the state-mandated date on March 26. The decision to do so is entirely up to the individual student and their family! However, fees and registration are the family's responsibility if their student takes the test before March 26 (*See your counselor if you feel you require a fee waiver). Additionally, if you’re wondering whether you can retake the ACT after the state-mandated test, the answer is YES, although it is not mandatory. The ACT is offered on several national test dates at various locations in Fargo. If students do choose to test on a national test date, all registration activities are done on the website at: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html

2024 AP EXAM Registration
*This registration is for semester 2 only classes or if you forgot to register for your semester one/full-year class exam(s) and want to register with a $40 late fee per exam.
Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Ronald N Davies High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.
For the 2024 AP exams, students at Ronald N Davies High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration will begin on Mon, February 5, 2024 at 7:00 AM and end on Wed, March 6, 2024 at 11:59 PM. The AP exam registration process is two steps, but both can be completed in one sitting when the student and parent/guardian do this together. Even if you do not plan to take the AP exam, you need to complete both steps to access the College Board’s AP resources. Both steps must be completed in order to have AP exams ordered:
Step 1: Begin the process by registering at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/350569. Here you will indicate both the AP courses you are taking this year and the exams you wish to take. You will receive your join codes and directions to complete the second required step. Any exam fees will be paid online so be sure to have a debit card or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.
Step 2: Use the join codes provided at the completion of step one to enroll the student's AP courses and exams in the College Board's system.
This year each AP exam costs $101.00 (processing fee included). Ronald N Davies High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Students requiring financial assistance should see attached exam fee guidance guide. If you have questions please contact Mrs. Amanda Brown, browna@fargo.k12.nd.us.

Each of the Discovery sixth, seventh, and eighth grade bands performed a musical number and the Davies Concert Band, Davies Symphonic Band, and Davies Wind Ensemble performed. The concert concluded with a grand finale featuring musicians from all six bands performing the “Pokemon Theme Song” and the Davies school song.
Swept Away Robotics Competition
On January 9, members of 26 teams from North High School, South High School, Davies High School, and West Fargo High School put their robotics engineering and piloting skills to the test at the Swept Away robotics competition at South High School. The teams designed and built robots to compete in the Swept Away game, which tasks them with using a robot to move as many foam balls as possible into their opponent's side of the field.
The winning team was Carson and Gabe's Team from North High School, while second place was Bobert from Davies High School, which consisted of Freshmen, Devin Nester and Kenneth Biewer.
MLK Day Celebration - Umoja 55
Monday night at The Fargo Theatre for Umoja 55 was truly phenomenal! Students from Fargo North, Fargo South, West Fargo and Davies performed their artistic expression of Martin Luther King Jr.‘s Legacy!
NURSES CORNER: Medication Administration at School
FPS has a medication administration policy, please refer to policy AP6720. Davies High School has a nurse that is available M-F from 8:45 - 3:15. During this time she is available to administer medication to your student (prescription and over the counter). Paperwork must be on file for all prescription medications (AF6720-A). A new one is needed on file for every school year.
When the Davies High School nurse is unavailable, there are other staff members trained in medication administration who can assist in the administration of prescription medications.
Keep in mind that students can self-administer medication at school – however, paperwork must be on file for this also (AF6720-F). Any student who needs Tylenol, Ibuprofen or Tums can carry their own (AF6720-F) or wait until leaving the school. We do encourage this.
Urgent situations do happen. Only in these cases will the other medication trained staff members administer over-the-counter medications.
If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse.

- Photos with accessories (i.e. hats, scarves, jewelry), props (i.e. sports equipment, musical instruments, cars), and domesticated pets are allowed as long as they do not promote or condone illegal activity.

- Displays of drugs, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, or weapons of any kind
- Inappropriate gestures, facial expressions, postures, or hand gestures
All photos submitted must conform to school standards and policies and if needed, may be subject to review or approval by, but not limited to the yearbook staff, the yearbook advisor, and the school administration.

Digital Photo Requirements: All photos must be at 300 dpi in resolution and at least 1.5 by 2 inches in size. Davies Yearbook Staff can crop original pictures if needed.
