FEATURED EMPLOYEE: Kara Yates
Get to know the new Director of eLearning in the Southwestern of the state. Please join us in welcoming Kara Yates to the TIS team!
Tell us a little bit about yourself... I am married to Paul Yates, an accountant at our local zoo, and have 3 boys. Conner is 9, Mason is 6, and Levi is 4. My life is filled with super heroes, ninja turtles, lots of noise-and hungry boys! :)
Where did you work before coming to Five-Star? I worked as a high school and middle school English teacher for 14 years in Evansville. I was also an eLearning coach for a district while they were implementing a 1:1. From there I went to work for the IDOE as an Outreach Coordinator when that program was started by Superintendent Ritz. After putting in a LOT of miles between my house and Indianapolis-I decided to stay local. I was the Director of Instructional Technology for a school district right across the river from me in Kentucky.
Where are you from? I was born and raised in Evansville-but after getting married-we moved to a suburb of Evansville--Newburgh, IN. We love the small community.
What is your favorite TV show? Sadly, I am a TV addict! I love reality shows! Big Brother is my summer favorite. I also love Big Bang Theory, Scorpion, The Blacklist, and LOTS more! I watch every Hallmark Movie (and series) there is and often count day the days until the Christmas Hallmark movies begin.
Hobbies? I love to cook. I collect cookbooks and am always looking for the next great recipe. I love to swim. We spent time at Holiday World as a family. I also enjoy going to garage sales and looking for the next great bargain with my mom.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Next to a beach. I LOVE the water and the beach. My husband and I are constantly planning our retirement strategy so I can land next to the beach.
Favorite team? I'm not much of a sport fan-but have married into a UK family. I do like watching UK basketball games. My husband is an avid NASCAR fan-so although I have been to many races-I would't call it my favorite. :)
- Favorite food? PIZZA and Doritos
- One interesting fact about you... My senior year of high school I was in a radio broadcasting class and actually had an official FCC license to be on air broadcasting. I spent my freshmen year of college as a radio DJ to help pay the bills.
Welcome Emmaline Kay Adams to the world! Congrats, Cheryl!
