Once a month we want our whole school (all students and staff) to dress alike (sports attire, crazy socks, pajamas, etc.). The last week of every month will be called THEME THURSDAYS where we get a chance to do this!
On 10/27 it will be Grade Level Color Day!
Kindergarten: wear Blue
1st: wear Green
2nd: wear Yellow
3rd: wear White
4th: wear Red
5th: wear Black
Halloween Celebration- October 31
On Monday, October 31, we will be doing our Halloween Celebrations. This will go from 1:00 until the end of the day. EPIC will be providing our fun activities for that day.
***Students are not to bring in “goodie” bags and food items for their class. Our celebrations are food-free due to the many allergies we have in the building and of course the spreading of germs. Although goodie bags can be non-edible, EPIC provides all of our materials for students for our celebrations. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Students will be allowed to wear costumes under the following guidelines:
- Costumes should not be worn to school
- The costume must be able to be put on by themselves over their clothes.
- Costumes must be put on in the classrooms.
- Costumes must be school appropriate (no blood, weapons)
Parent/Teacher Conferences- Nov 3-4
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on November 3-4 during the following times:
- Thursday, November 3rd from 3:30PM-7:00PM (In-Person Only)
- Friday, November 4th from 8:00AM-3:00PM
We encourage parents to come in to visit with the teacher on their child's progress. The Book Fair will also be going on in the Media Center. A Zoom conference will be available if families are unable to make it in for a person conference on Friday .
If you did not get a link to sign-up for conferences, please contact yoru child's teacher.
Art to Remember
Our school is participating in a creative fundraiser with Art to Remember that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child's art. The ordering deadline is Monday, October 24th and you can ship it to school for free!
There are over 60 products and many are less than $15. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school. Click on the link below and enter the online order code shown on your child's order form or to search for your child's artwork. Then, have fun shopping!
Indoor Recess
- Raining or possibly heavy/wet snow
- Temperature is 15 degrees or below or windchill feels 10 degrees or less
- High Risk Heat Index
Teachers have set expectations for indoor recess with students that may include board games, use of iPad, or other activities to do in their classrooms.
Erin's Law- Sexual Assault/Abuse
Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. It is recommended that four communications a year on Erin’s Law be made available to all students.
Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, author and motivational speaker, will be assisting our school in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
Safety rules at home and school
Saying “NO”
Safe/Unsafe Secrets
It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
Telling a trusted adult
See below for video on what concepts will be covered for each grade level.
Mr. Pacini 's colleague, Deanna Hynes, will be presenting at Millburn Elementary on Thursday, November 10.
Requests to Opt-Out: If you prefer that your child opt-out of this prevention education session, please email your child’s classroom teacher.
