Would We Do the Bobcat Dash Even If We Didn't Raise Money?
There is no question that our Bobcat Dash is a great fundraiser. We will let you know how much we raised once the totals are determined. Having said that, I believe I would want to do a Bobcat Dash even if we didn't raise money. Here's why. 1. Kids get to participate in a "race day." Race days are big events where everyone runs towards the finish line. Our children need to know what it is like to participate in a fun run like that. Nothing replaces the excitement, the cheers, and the music. 2. It gives us a reason to come together as a school family and as a community. I am always amazed and blessed that parents, neighbors, and teachers rearrange everything to come to a fun run and support our kids. We enjoy seeing all of our kids participate in the event. We get to catch up with each other and share a common experience. Volunteers from CPES and the community come together to make all the magic happen. 3. Kids learn a different aspect of being healthy. They see fantastic role models in our Winthrop Athletes who explain what they do to make good decisions in taking care of their bodies. They get to experience what it's like to walk and run for a sustained period of time. Some kids may be inspired to later run cross country. Hopefully, all of them know something they can do to exercise each day. 4. We have fun. We are giving high fives. We are calling our kids' names. We are with our friends both big and small. We get a t-shirt, a snack and a bottle of water. The music is playing loud and we are laughing. Can it get any better? We appreciate all the heavy lifting of Mrs. Amanda Winters, Mrs. Jennifer Carlisle, Dr. Christi Beard and Mrs. Emily Anderson in planning for the Bobcat Dash. We value the effort of all of our sponsors, contributors, volunteers, staff and visitors. Thank you for making Friday a very special day for our kids. It takes #OneTeamOneMissionOneRockHill for that to happen.
