Megan's note
As usual, lots of interesting stuff going on in this newsletter! At the same time, much clearing out of cupboards is going on, so that we can facilitate a move to Rolle. Estates have informed us the move will take place over two weeks from 2-13 July and packing crates will be available on Monday 18 June.
Thanks for all the forbearance with this in the meanwhile.
Best Wishes,
Megan
Shakespeare4Kidz
Every year we put on a production of Shakespeare for local primary schools and have about 1,200 children and staff come in over 6 productions during one week of shows in the Roland Levinsky theatre. The actors and director and producer and all the additional helpers, such as music, choreography, set, costumes, make up and school liaison are mainly from our BEd course but we also have students join us from across the university.
This year Olivia Harrison directed 12th Night and, whereas all productions are of a high standard, this one has to be one of our best ever. Staff are always welcome and several colleagues came along and were very impressed by the singing and dancing and acting of all our wonderfully talented students. And, yes, I know I am biased but also proud of what we achieve as a team each year. This is our 8th production and we are already working on next year's play, which will be 'The Tempest' which is directed by Emma Brunt and Ryan Gunning and produced by Kayleigh Royle. Hope to see you all there next April 2019.

Plymouth Half Marathon
Congratulations to Vee Thompson, our lovely Physical Education Technician, who completed the Plymouth Half Marathon on the 20th May - her first attempt at this distance. Vee achieved a commendable time of 2 hours 27 minutes. She was heard to utter the words 'never again' as she headed up the hill from the Barbican to The Hoe, but we're confident that she has the bug and won't be able to resist having another go at some point.
Vee raised nearly £500 for Children`s Hospice South West which is a fabulous achievement.
University Women's Network - 22 June 2018
In our ‘Plymouth Conversation’ this year we focus on the ways in which gender equity and women’s professional development are being formally and tangibly embedded into the University.
Our discussion panel this year will include Professor Liz Kay and Professor Dafydd Moore, co-Chairs of the University Athena SWAN SAT, who will talk more about the University’s Athena SWAN journey and how this has been embedded into the University’s Equality Scheme.

Visiting Academic
Prof. Paolo Sorzio from the University of Trieste, Italy, spent a week at PIoE providing lectures and seminars for undergraduates, postgraduates and colleagues. After an inspiring and thought provoking lecture for the BA Early Childhood Studies Final Stage Research Celebration Day, Paolo joined Verity Campbell-Barr and Jan Georgeson at the Early Education Annual National conference in Birmingham. At the conference Paolo, Jan and Verity presented findings on the second stage of their research project, Child Centred Diversity for Quality Early Childhood Education and Care, that explored observations of child-centred practice. Project partners from Truro and Camborne Nursery Schools also presented at the conference on the benefits they have experienced being part of an international research project. Further details of the project can be found via the project’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ChildCentredDiversity/?ref=page_internal
Verity is not present in the picture because: a) She was taking the picture, b) she always gets caught talking whilst the picture is being taken, c) both a and b?
