Are You Ready for Spring Break? Edition - March 5, 2015

Traveling outside the U.S.?

The basic requirements for an F-1 student to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad are:


  • A Form I-20 with a valid travel signature on page 3
  • A current passport valid for at least six months after the date of your reentry, or if you are from one of the countries listed here, a passport that is current through the date of entry
  • A valid F-1 visa, unless you traveled to Canada, Mexico, or an adjacent islands and were there for less than 30 days, in which case you may re-enter on an expired visa.
  • Students from visa exempt countries such as Canada do not need a visa to re-enter from the western hemisphere.

Remember: Residence halls reopen on at 12:00 noon on Sunday, March 15.

Tanger Outlet Locust Grove - Tuesday, March 10

Get your spring shopping spree on with a trip to the Tanger Outlet at Locust Grove, Georgia. Vans depart from the Oxford Transportation Hub at 10:00 a.m. and return on campus by 4:30 p.m.


Limited to 12 students. Sign up in the ISP office no later than 4:30 p.m., Monday, March 9.

Atlanta Botanical Gardens - Wednesday, March 11

Visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and enjoy the fields of tulips and daffodils as well as "Orchid Daze: Pop!", the Garden's new exhibit featuring thousands of orchid arrangements inspired by famous Pop artists.


Vans depart from the Oxford Transportation Hub at 10:00 a.m. and return on campus by 4:30 p.m. Students are responsible for the admission fee ($18.95 plus tax) as well as the cost of their lunch.

High Museum of Art Atlanta - Thursday, March 12

View the permanent collections and the special exhibits at the High Museum of Art including "The Coca-Cola Bottle: An American Icon at 100", "Imagining New Worlds: Wilfredo Lam, Jose Parla, and Fahamu Pecou", and "Gordon Parks: Segregation Story".


Vans depart from the Oxford Transportation Hub at 10:00 a.m. and return on campus by 4:30 p.m. Students are responsible for the admission fee ($5 plus tax) as well as the cost of their lunch.

LGBT Resources on ISP Web Page

The ISP web page has been updated to include information and resources for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, questioning, and allied students. Additional information will be included in the future. Please email any suggestions for more topics and resources to include.

Did you know that you can still do research off-campus? During Spring Break you still have access to library resources, even if you aren’t on campus. Use the Databases@Emory page to find article databases, or use DiscoverE to search for books and more!

Graduation Reception???

The Oxford College Office of International Student Programs is considered whether or not to host a graduation reception for international students. We would like to measure the level of interest in such an event. If you are graduating this May, please take a moment to answer an extremely short survey.

Your Continuing Writing Requirement

Do you plan to stay in Atlanta and take summer courses? Consider taking English 221/RWP. The course will explore our "complex and evolving relationships between space, place, and the self", and takes place May 12-29, Monday-Friday, 9am-12:30pm. Email lauren.holt@emory.edu for details.
