"Insta-graham" Cracker Decorating Contest

As part of our holiday party that this month I am planning on having an "insta-graham" cracker decorating contest where students will decorate one graham cracker, instead of making gingerbread houses. I will supply the graham crackers, but was wondering if other families would be willing to send in vanilla icing, sprinkles, and any candies (gum drops, peppermints, M&Ms, etc.) that could be used to decorate student creations. Please let me know if you are willing to help!

Landforms & Island Design

In Units of Study we recently began a short unit on landforms. Students have been working in small groups to research assigned landforms to present to the class. We will spend next week working online and students will each design a blueprint of an island applying what they know about landforms and how they interact with one another. The week of December 13 students will make paper mache models of their islands based off of the blueprints they design next week. While this is a few weeks from now, I am hoping that some of you would be willing to send in newspapers that you are no longer using for this project. Please let me know if this is something you are able to assist with.

Math & Measurement Conversions

This week we began a math unit dealing with metric and customary unit conversions. Students will be able to link this new knowledge to our previous unit dealing with proportions. I anticipate that students will take the quiz near the end of next week.

Following this quiz, we will be a week ahead of our math unit plans. Instead of beginning a new unit the week before break we will take some time to learn basic integer operations in hopes that this will help when we begin our algebra based units in January.
