For Deputy Pete Romo
Deputy Pete Romo was one of my favorite SROs. Pete was patient, when parents were angry, he was patient, when I asked dumb questions, he was patient, when teenagers made poor choices. He never panicked, took things personally, or overacted. He had a kind spirit.
Showing up to work every day, doing your best, being kind, being professional-these should be standard practices, but for whatever reason, it can be a struggle for many. To do one's job, and to do it well, and with kindness, that is no small feat! And yet Pete did it, every day.
I enjoyed working with Pete. I wish I would have told him that. We can't assume there will always be another time, a better time to share. We can't assume there will be a time that's slower with nothing urgent knocking on our door.
Today is a good day to affirm someone. Let's take the time to let someone know they are appreciated.
