PRINCIPAL CORNER
Greetings, École Vickers School Community!
Ah, the monthly newsletter—a literary riddle. Do you read it, or is it a game of scroll-and-skim?
For the savvy readers, hats off to your dedication! Your reward? An entertaining mix of school updates and a sprinkle of wit.
To the swift skimmers, your secret's safe. I've been there too, nodding along as if I've memorized every word.
But here's the million-dollar question: does anyone truly read these newsletters?
And now, a challenge! If you've reached this point, send a quick message to me via EDSBY—it can be a word, emoji, or secret handshake— confirming you’ve read this lively letter. At this point, you'll be entered to win a glorious Family Activity Night Basket, brimming with joyous entertainment and fun for all – our way of celebrating your dedication to our updates!
Thanks for being a vital part of our school family, whether diving deep or just skimming the surface.
Keep an eye out in the future for those elusive gems within our communications—they're worth the hunt!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Green
Principal Extraordinaire 😊

Reflecting on her initial plans just to post the picture to her personal social media page, Parenteau explained that while sitting at a concert the idea came to her to do something more.
“I want them to feel how incredible they are,” she said.
Proceeds raised from the gala ticket sales will help cover costs and the remaining amount will go to a charity selected by those who attend.

VICKERS MUSIC
Happy new year! January in the music department means MUSIC FESTIVAL REGISTRATION TIME! The deadline for registering for the Prince Albert Music Festival is Saturday, January 13th. Ms. Lohneis will register the choir, the Grade 4 music classes, and all of the bands from Grades 5-8. If your child is planning to play a solo, duet, etc. please contact Ms. Lohneis for registration information. She will register your child but will require some information in order to create your online profiles on your behalf. The Vickers Band Parents Association will cover the cost of registering all interested band instrumental soloists and small ensembles for Festival ($20+ per song) with the understanding that students who choose to participate will commit to practicing and preparing ahead of time. We are already hearing some amazing solo preparations happening in the band room, so we are in for a great showing from Vickers come Festival time in March!
The dates of this year's Music Festival are as follows (venues and award concert dates are TBA at this time):
Piano: February 26th-28th
Vocal, Choral, & Musical Theatre: February 29th-March 3rd
Instrumental (including strings): March 4th-8th
Band: March 11th-16th
Just a reminder that the Vickers Band Parents Association has a bingo license which offers parents the opportunity to work bingos at Carnival Bingo to offset the cost of their child(ren)'s band and choir trips. For every bingo worked, a $50 credit is applied to their child's trip account. The next scheduled bingo for Vickers workers is Thursday, January 25th. Contact Ms. Lohneis if you would like to sign up to work.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
