Principal's Message
Welcome to the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year!
WASC 2020
Every six years, CCAS goes through an accreditation self-study process. Through this process we form teams to analyze how we are doing as compared to specific criteria, identify our strengths and areas for growth, and develop an action plan to improve student learning and school performance based on that analysis. Then we are visited by a group of people from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), who come validate what we've identified. WASC certifies to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning and it validates the integrity of the school’s programs and student transcripts. On February 28, the staff will meet to kick-off our self-study process. Shortly after, we will be asking for student participation as part of teams, through surveys and in focus groups. Our WASC visit is scheduled for spring 2020. Let's get started!!!!

ABE News
Dear ABE Students!
My name is Joy Rosenberg. I'm the ABE department coordinator. I am returning to work after having been out on parental leave due to the birth of my son in August. During the next few weeks, I will be visiting your classroom upon my return to work. My goal for the semester is to support the ABE teachers, assistant, and classroom volunteers by working with students to see where your needs are.
I'm happy to hear that many of you have been making progress with Math, and in English Language Arts with the Laubach Way to Reading program and Evidence-Based Reading Instruction. Our department goals are to integrate your in-class, explicit instruction by your teacher with supportive technology, and to help you make connections between what you learn in class and your lives outside the classroom.
This spring, school staff will begin writing a self-study report to keep our school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. As we go through this process, we want to hear from students. What is working for you? How can we improve our program and this school? We hope that you will decide to become involved by either joining the Student Council or getting involved in some of our accreditation readiness activities. Thank you, and see you in class soon.
Best wishes,
Joy Rosenberg
ESL News
We are excited to start a new semester! Congratulations to all of our new students for beginning their studies. Congratulations to all of our continuing students for their continued efforts toward their goals.
Remember students, when you are out and about in the city, listen, listen, listen to the English being spoken around you! It's OK when you don't understand all of it. The important thing is to keep listening! Little by little you will understand more and more.
Listen to the radio in English and watch some English TV. The more you listen to English, the faster you will understand what people are saying to you. Study and memorize new vocabulary, but most importantly, have fun with your English!
ESL Department Meeting February 5, 3:00-5:00 in Room 5.
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA - HiSET INDEPENDENT LEARNING CENTER (ILC) News
It is GAME TIME in the ILC and the start of "Graduation Season." The Class of 2019 team is forming and students are making their game plans for graduation. The ILC wall has transformed into our playing field. Students who are close to graduating can place their ball in the game by filling out a graduation game plan sheet with their teacher. As students complete classes, they can move their ball toward our TOUCHDOWN, graduation! The teachers and TAs are ready to cheer on and help our ILC athletes achieve their dreams this year! When ILC students graduate, they are looking forward to going to college, qualifying for a new position, entering a training program, and making their families proud. 64 school days are left!
