Dear Burns Park Families,

Happy Sunday! We hope you and your students enjoyed the winter wonderland last week. We know many were excited to sled down Magic Mountain during Friday's lunch. Not too many updates on our end this week. Just please note, Tuesday, January 31st is an early release day - school will dismiss at 1:18PM. Please ensure your student knows their after school plan for this day.

Have a wonderful week,

Heather & Leslee

Safe Routes to School Survey

BPE's Safe Routes to School Committee would like your help learning a bit more about your child(ren)'s transportation to school. Please support us by filling out this quick survey. We appreciate your help, time and support!

Library News!

In Library this month we will be focusing on the importance of having a healthy media balance, encouraging students to look for opportunities where they can take breaks from their devices. We will brainstorm activities that are fun to do individually, with friends, and as a family that are device-free. Y5-K students are learning how to regulate their emotions when asked to transition from an online activity to an offline one with the Pause, Breathe, and Finish Up strategy, 1st-2nd graders will sing along to the Balance is Important song, and 3rd-5th graders are thoughtfully considering what their media balance looks like. Here are a few family resources to help continue these important conversations of media balance as family: Y5-2 Family Conversation Starter , 3-5 Family Conversation Starter, and Ways to Help Kids Balance Their Media Lives.

NWEA Testing

This week continues NWEA testing for Burns Park students. Teachers will be communicating when your student will be taking these assessments in their newsletters/class calendars. For more information about this assessment, please read this parent letter.

From the PTO

Dear Fantastic BPE Families,

I hope that everyone had a terrific twentieth week of school. Below we have an updated request for volunteers for the Science Olympiad. Additionally, please keep the next PTO meeting (February 8) and Burns Park Saturday at the PTO Thrift Shop (February 25) on your calendar.

Register Now for Science Olympiad!

Science Olympiad registration remains open through Friday, February 3. Use this form to register. Emails will go out the week of February 6th, informing everyone of their events and practice times.

There was an error on the last email that we sent. All events practice only once a week. Most practices will be on Sundays afternoons. Please indicate on the form whether you want to participate but cannot make it Sundays or have other barriers.

We still need several coaches or we will have to cancel some events. If there is an event your child is interested in, please consider coaching. The time commitment is 1hour a week, plus some prep time (varies by event). You do not have to have a science background. We'll help you get everything you need! Use this form to sign up to coach.

If you have any questions, email us: scienceolympiad@bpepto.org
