Year 7 Making the Difference Water Safety Programme – Rotorua Intermediate

We are fortunate to have been granted funding for our Year 7 students to take part in the ‘Making the Difference’ water safety programme.

The ‘Making the Difference’ water safety programme is a joint initiative of Swim Rotorua Swimming Club and Rotorua Swim Magic Swim School. We have been provided this fantastic opportunity due to funding by Baytrust, the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust and Water Safety New Zealand, who all deem water safety and swimming to be a vital life skill. Our programme now incorporates the Water Safety New Zealand (WSNZ) Water Skills for Life.

The programme is of no cost to our students and will:

  • Provide professionally trained swimming instructors to deliver lessons (working alongside teachers).

  • Teach basic “learn to swim” and Water Safety NZ’s Water Skills for Life.

  • Assess our student’s ability and provide them with cards to go home to parents to give them a realistic assessment of their child’s ability.

  • Include transport to and from the Aquatic Centre.

All students have been automatically enroled unless their parent/guardian contacts their childs teacher to tell us otherwise.
