Welcome Back!
7th Grade News
We are off! It has been a busy and exciting start to 7th grade. Our students have done a fantastic job with lockers and schedules. We have enjoyed learning all the new names, faces, and personalities of your 7th graders. It's been great to meet many of you and speak with you during these first few weeks of school too.
So, what have you been learning about at school?! We're sure your budding teenager can't wait to talk about school right as they walk in the door...No? Well, just in case they've been a little reluctant, we'd like to share what we've been up to so far.
In Social Studies, we have been busy learning about the lives of the earliest humans and the beginning of agricultural societies. During September, we will study the ancient Greeks. Ask your 7th grader to explain the difference between primary and secondary sources to you!
In Life Science, we are learning all about the components of ecosystems and cycles of matter and energy. We have also been sharpening our graphing skills and analyzing science data.
In Reading, we are developing our reading strategy skills to help students build connections to stories and characters. These strategies will benefit our students when it comes to difficult reading skills such as identifying themes and conflict throughout a story.
In English, we have started learning the RACE writing method! This writing strategy develops your 7th grader's ability to make written claims and support them with evidence. We have also been writing a personal narrative!
What are we doing in Math 7:
Students are learning how to add and subtract integers. They explore through models with counters and number lines and then use the rules. They will be learning how to multiply and divide with integers next. The first test over adding and subtracting integers is on Friday, September 15th.
What are we doing in Advanced Math:
Students are reviewing how to simplify expressions and solve one step equations. They will be learning how to write and solve two step equations and inequalities. The first test over expressions and equations will be Friday, September 15th.
In all math classes with Mrs. Rogers, students are exposed to many different approaches to better understand these concepts through EdPuzzles, Gimkits, scavenger hunts, math libs, note taking and more. Students can use this google document to find a way to study for the math test that works best for him/her.
Please remind your student to use their passing time wisely. We are now marking tardies. Overall, 7th graders are also doing a great job at keeping their cell phones in their lockers during the day. This helps them stay focused on learning and not a buzzing pocket. Thank you for your support as we kick off another school year!
The 7th Grade Team!

In English with Mrs. Tinberg, we are working on our personal narratives and reviewing parts of speech.
In Reading with Mrs. Chambers, we are preparing to read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. We are doing research on the 1960s and reviewing characterization and our fiction signposts.
In Science with Mrs. Hanaman, we are working through Chapter 1 of our Science textbook, focusing on distance and velocity.
In P.E. classes with Mrs. Jeffers and Mr. Mooney, we are currently in our frisbee and soccer units.
Information regarding our end of the year Six Flags Great America field trip will be coming out soon!
Meet Lilly, Our new therapy dog for NBMS.
Lilly is registered and insured through Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs Inc. She will be at NBMS in the Social Work Room on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. She will only be in the SW room, and will not be visiting classrooms or any other common areas in the school in order to prevent exposure to any student or staff with pet allergies. Students will be able to visit with Lilly if they are in need of a warm and comforting snuggle with a very friendly therapy dog.
Edwards Apple Orchard Donut Fundraiser
8th grade will be selling Edwards Apple Cider Donuts again for $1.00. Students can purchase donuts in the morning before school and then we will be passing them out on Friday at lunch. If a student is going to purchase more than a half dozen, they will need a note from their parents verifying it is okay for them to do so.
