Safety and Security: Change in End of Day Entrance to Campus Procedure

At the end of the day, right before middle school and elementary school pick up times begin, our security guard will only be allowing enough cars onto campus that can fit without blocking the left turn lane to go to the front of the schools. This will enable parents of middle and high school students, who need to get on campus to pick up/drop kids off for after school activities during this time. Going forward, if these parents pull up to the guard building, and let him know they are here for another purpose besides elementary pick up, (like a middle or high school activity) he will wave them through so that they can get to their appropriate school instead of getting stuck with the cars waiting for the elementary pick up.

Cars will be asked to wait outside of the gate (the majority of them) to allow access for buses and parents dropping off students onto campus for after school activities. Once car line begins, they will be able to enter the campus.

Thank you for your cooperation.

FSA Parent Night

As we approach our FSA testing dates, our staff has been digging into the data and collaborating on strategies to help our students become proficient and continue to make learning gains. Many times parents ask what kind of strategies they can use at home to help their child become more prepared for FSA.

Parents who are interested in learning more about the expectations of the FSA, as well as ways to help their child, are invited to FSA Parent Information Night. Dates and times for each grade level is listed below. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.

Reflex Math and Khan Academy

Here are some online activities that the children are already familiar with using. For math, spending some extra time every night, on Reflex Math or Khan Academy (grades 3--5) is an effective way for your child to increase his/her math fluency as well as build a better understanding of grade level math skills. Please reach out to your child's teacher, if your child does not know his or her username and password.

Cold and Flu Season

OES has had an increase in illnesses. Please remind your child of the importance of hand washing/hand sanitizer and also keeping their hands away from their face. Teachers are doing their best to keep surfaces disinfected and our custodial staff will be doing extra cleaning. Also, our school policy states that a fever is considered 100.0 or higher and the student must remain at home at least until 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without the use of medication.

Road Closure

Starting Tuesday, January 21st, Gleason Parkway, (the short part between the stop signs) is scheduled to be closed until February 11. Since your new route may take longer, leaving earlier than usual will allow for students to arrive to school on time.

Mind Up Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum

This week in MindUP, students will learn about Lesson 12: Appreciating Happy Experiences

A Message from Mrs. Gamboa...

Many students are reading to reach a milestone in the SSYRA Jr. (K-2) and SSYRA (3-5) Reading Program.

The deadline to read for a milestone is Monday, March 23, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. Note: They must have read at least 8 books to attend the Election Party and all 15 to earn a seat on the Battle of the Books along with earning 70% or higher on the AR Test.

For the 3-5 SSYRA books, we will continue to give out the dog tags through May 15, or until our supply is depleted.

Please make sure if your child is reading to reach a milestone of 3, 8, 12, or 15, that they advise their classroom teacher allowing their reading log card to be updated.

Thank you for encouraging your child to reach for the highest summit of READING!

Please review the AR Fun Day letter, from October, to remind your child of the criteria to earn this super fun day.

E-Book Collection

Our E book collection contains most of the 2019-2020 SSYRA books along with a few audio books.

You will have 14 days to read, but if you finish early simply go into the account and click RETURN. This will free the copy for someone else and allow your child to check out another ebook.

To access Sora program in the browser,

visit or download the Sora app (Apple or Android) and search for Oasis. Students will sign in using their Oasis Google account username and password.

Username: first

Password: Children in grades 3-5 know their passwords

A letter containing this information was sent home in September.

Please utilize this wonderful resource and CHECK OUT and RETURN often.

Rainbow Reading

The K-2 Rainbow Reading Program is in full swing now. All students received the red reading log at the beginning of the school year. As you and your child read the books listed on the sheet and it is returned during their library visit, they will spin for a prize and receive the next colored log.

The goal is for students to read through the colors of a rainbow and reach "PURPLE". Then they will join us during our Purple People Party in May. During this party, students will wear purple, and eat purple foods, play games, and enjoy time with other readers.

If you need another red sheet, please send an email and include the student and his or her teacher's name to the request. This is a fun time for your child to explore books in varying genres from your home and public library. Also, they can search for books in the school library during their Specials visit.

Thank you for supporting your child's education.

The Florida Legislature directed this tool’s development in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. For more information visit:
