Happy October!!!
Centerville is a great place for star scholars and the adults who care about and work with them. We are proud to be associated with a school of excellence. We have appreciated your patience as our star scholars and star staff have become familiar with the routines during the school day, as well as before and after school. As we walk the halls, observe in the classrooms, and interact with star scholars we are continually in awe by the quality of the work that is being done by star scholars. We are so proud of our star staff as they are the shining stars in the success achieved by our star scholars! This is going to be a startastic year of learning!
Yours in education,
Mr. Kilduff, Mrs. Miller & Mrs. Hilliard
Very Important- Please Read!
We want to keep all parents in the loop about changes that may have an impact on our star scholars. Our secretaries attend many training throughout the year to gather updates and learn new policies. During one of the meetings it was shared that if no media was checked on the emergency card your star scholar will not be published in school based publications, photographs, videos, etc. This does include the yearbook. If you would like to revise your selection please stop in the office and make the revision.

Fall Parties
October 25- for Grades -1st, 3rd, & 5th
October 27- for Grades - Kindergarten, 2nd & 4th.
Our fall parties are divided over two days due to parking and the large number of guests in the building. We recommend that parents carpool so that we don't add to the heavy traffic congestion surrounding the school during dismissal.
Your star scholar will be celebrating “Book Character Day” on the day of his/her fall party. Star scholars can dress as their favorite story book character. We ask that no masks or weapons be a part of the costume.
Due to many allergies we are also requesting that the party snacks be limited to a sweet item, a salty item, and a healthy item.
The fall party is for Centerville Elementary star scholars only. Due to space no siblings are allowed at the party. This includes siblings from the middle or high school.
All star scholars will be dismissed at our normal dismissal time on the day of the parties. If you plan to pick up your star scholar please meet them at their normal dismissal area. Thank you in advance for your support of a safe dismissal on the day of the parties

Volunteers for the Media Center
Mrs. White could use some volunteers to help in the media center. She has many books to check-in and re shelf so that star scholars can check out their favorite titles. If you can help please email Mrs. White at dylane.white@fcps.org or just drop in, any time you can give will be appreciated.

Dismissal
It is important to send written notice to teachers if your star scholar will be dismissing early. This process will allow teachers to plan to have star scholars ready to leave. In order to maximize learning time, we do not call star scholars to the office until parents arrive.
Please be aware that star scholars are not always in their homeroom classes when parents arrive to pick them up. Additional time may be needed for star scholars to arrive in the office when teachers do not receive prior written notice of an early dismissal. Our 4th and 5th grade star scholarsmay have to return from the main building to the 100 Wing to gather their belongings. Parents please plan accordingly.
Forgotten Items
We have been in school for about 6 weeks and the star scholars are mastering the routines and expectations. We have been assisting by delivering forgotten items to the star scholars. Beginning next week we will be following our procedure to not deliver those forgotten items to the classroom. Our secretaries are very busy and can’t always get away from their desks to deliver the items you drop off.
If your star scholar forgets homework we will put it in the teacher’s mailbox so they can retrieve it during planning or lunch. We will not be delivering forgotten lunches unless a star scholar has a documented allergy. We have a principal's account where your child can charge and receive a hot lunch. We will deliver glasses if forgotten by your star scholar. We hope that you will assist us with helping your star scholar build independence. Thanks.
What do you do when your child is absent from school?
When your star scholar is absent from school we need a note stating why your star scholar was absent. In addition, when your star scholar has a doctor, dentist, therapy appointment please ask for a note for school. Most of the practitioners are aware of the note and will print the document for your star scholar. The note must be turned in within two days of your star scholar's return to school. If the note is not received within the two days, the absence is coded as unlawful.
Stars scholars are given five vacation days for the school year. Please forward a communication to Mrs. Hilliard at tracy.hilliard@fcps.org stating the start and end time of your vacation. Any days missed after the five absences are unlawful. Please refer to page 38 in the FCPS calendar handbook.
Star Scholars will not be given work prior to absences or vacations. All work missed during the absences will be given to the star scholar upon his/her return back to school. The teacher will give a deadline for the work to be submitted for credit.
Questions or concerns?
Our staff works hard each day to deliver the best educational environment for your star scholar. The classroom teacher has developed a positive relationship with your star scholar and can answer any questions that you may have about your star scholar. Please give the staff member 24 hours to get back to you with a response. Before calling to schedule a meeting with a school administrator please meet with the star scholar's teacher first.
The staff is available to answer any questions or concerns you may have so a response won't be delayed. Strong collaborative relationships are a key in the star scholar's success at Centerville Elementary. Thanks for being a partner in your star scholar's team at CES.
