World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages: Focus Areas
Communicate effectively in more than one language in order to function in a variety of situations and for multiple purposes.
- Interpersonal Communication: Learners interact and negotiate meaning in spoken, signed, or written conversations to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
- Interpretive Communication: Learners understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
- Presentational Communication: Learners present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media and adapting to various audiences of listeners, readers, or viewers.

Over 350 ILTexas and area educators were in attendance for the Krashen lecture that took place on November 16th at GHS.

Faculty and staff had the opportunity Monday night to meet world renowned educator of language acquisition, Dr. Stephen Krashen. Hosted by International Leadership of Texas, this event was open to all teachers and administrators across the DFW area. Following a VIP Reception honoring education and community leaders from within the Region 10 area, Dr. Krashen spoke on language acquisition and the challenges faced when teaching languages. ACTFL therefore recommends that language educators and their students use the target language as exclusively as possible (90% plus) at all levels of instruction during instructional time and, when feasible, beyond the classroom.
