Math
This Wednesday we will be finishing Unit 2 with an assessment. The study guide will be sent home today. Please look over this with your child. The problems on the study guide are the same problems on the test except using different numbers. We will start Unit 3 at the end of the week. Look in your child's communication folder for the family letter for Unit 3. It gives more details about what we will be covering in that unit. I am very excited about this unit because we will be reviewing various strategies to do addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. Just a reminder to you and your child...even though we teach several strategies, your child can use the strategy that works best for him or her.
Theme
This week we are working on our class ecosystem, the rain forest. We will focus on how rain forest animals adapt to their environment. Students will take all their new found knowledge and create their own fact tracker book on their assigned animal focusing on their habitat, diet, and adaptations. They cannot wait to share their book with you!
Important Dates
October 6th: Spirit Store
October 6th: Kona Ice
October 7th: Fall Festival 11-3 (Hope to see you there!)
ELA
Our story this week is, Symphony of Whales. As we read this story, we will focus on the role of characters and how important they are to a story. We will also work more on transforming research notes into paragraphs. Ask your child this week what a hamburger has to do with paragraph writing.
