This Week At SHOJ

Dec. 11, 2020

From Mrs. Rhodes

"I am the voice of the one crying out in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord!." John 1:23

The third week of Advent we light the rose colored candle and take a pause to experience joy in the midst of our preparation. It is called Gaudete Sunday. In the second reading from Thessalonians we hear from John the Baptist that the God of Mercy is already in town. That is a reason to be joyful. There is joy in preparing for a baby.

Currently SHOJ is preparing for our Cognia visit to review our accreditation. Our vision statement, "Preparing minds for the future, souls for eternity" continues to drive what we instill in our students each day by developing their skills for their future while living a life worthy of eternal life. Our mission statement, "Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, in cooperation with parents and the parish community, is dedicated to enriching the lives of students. Through living the gospel, we foster a community of Christina stewards who maximize their potential spiritually, academically and socially" is our connection with the parish mission statement.

As we look at evidence of what we have done well, the changes we have made and set goals for the future, their is joy. Cognia talks about a continuous cycle of improvement. As we look back we have already seen things that we can improve or change. Part of the visit will be some recommendations for improvements as we start the next cycle of 5 years. Though this visit is being done virtually, the team would still like to meet with some parents over zoom on Jan. 12 at 5:00 pm. If you would like to be considered, please email Mrs. Rhodes.

SHOJ Covid Updates for Week of Dec. 7 - Dec. 11

SHOJ had no positive students and no teachers/staff this week. 5 students/staff members are quarantined. We continue to meet (locally, with JOCO Principals and the health department) about in person learning. Of course, decisions made today could change at any time. At this time, we will be in-person as the spread is not happening at school. Thank you for your continued support in monitoring your children's health, encouraging them to follow protocols, and for your prayers and support. Just a reminder that if your child's class is affected, there will communication sent via email from Nurse Mary. She is available to answer any questions. Kindest Kansas Citian

For over 31 years, students in Kansas City have nominated the kindest people they know for the Kindest Kansas Citian Contest. This year Sacred Heart of Jesus will be participating in the 2021 Kindest Kansas Citian Contest. The Kindest Kansas Citian Contest is an awesome way to recognize the kind and caring ways of someone else by giving back that love and care in this special way.
