Garfield Family News

September 13th, 2020

Good evening,

Welcome to week two of online learning! Last week, more than half of our students logged in every single day, which is a great start! This week, our goal is to have 80% of out students login each day this week (students with tech issues are still marked present). Below are more attendance updates, including the importance of logging in each day. This week, you'll receive a phone call if your child was not logged in last week. Don't forget, we're here to help and if anything is needed, please let us know.

This Thursday, September 17th, we'll host a Supply Pick Up Day from 2p-6p. Supplies may include (based on grade level):

  • Scissors,
  • Earbuds,
  • Pencils,
  • Folders,
  • Gluesticks,
  • Folders,
  • and more.

In addition to school supplies, we'll also pass out materials for math and English for certain grade levels. These can include:

  • Workbooks,
  • Books,
  • Lesson sheets,
  • and more.

Additional supplies can include (based on grade level), materials for:

  • Music and
  • Art.

Please visit us at anytime between 2pm and 6pm on Thursday, September 17th to collect these materials. Pick up will take place in the back of the school off of W. 143rd.

Thank you for a successful first week of school! The staff appreciated your feedback, patience and grace as we all learn how to manage our new normal. Please continue to reach out to your child's teacher (email addresses are listed here) for assistance and you can also reply to this email.

In this together,

Jake Bosley

Student Attendance

Want to learn more about how we take student attendance? Click here to review the Parents and Caregivers attendance document. Last week, we had 100% attendance in our preschool and kindergarten classes! Our next best attendance rates was in 2nd grade at 92%!

Did you know?

  • Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
  • Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance.
  • When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
