Hampton Bays Middle School
Monday Memo #2
Great Opening Week!
We begin the week with Labor Day and we will close it with our annual Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11. If your schedule permits, please join us on Friday at 9:30 am at the elementary school flag pole for our first monthly flag ceremony. The ceremony will include essays written and read by several of our middle school students. This is a special event because it gives us the chance to connect with our HB community. And this particular ceremony traditionally features a multitude of local heroes who represent the different branches of military and volunteer service. These individuals and groups represent the very best of our HB community, spanning many generations and bringing history to life.
So if you are not teaching or supervising students during third period, take a walk with us across the campus to experience this event. To read about our honored veterans to date, visit our school website or click the following link: http://hbschools.us/district/flag_ceremony . There are so many amazing stories to appreciate here!
Finally, we continue with this week's Smore, a weekly offering of professional learning options for you to read, contemplate, and if appropriate, implement in your classrooms. It's important to me that you find what's included here challenging to our professional practice, in support of excellent teaching, and learning. If there's a topic in here that you'd like to discuss further or you've read something on your own that piques your interest, let's talk about it. If you have an idea for your team or department, or something new you want to in your classroom, let's talk about it. I am happy to help support you!
Happy Labor Day! I look forward to another promising week with each of you at HBMS!
Thanks for your hard work and your dedication to our students and middle school program.
