A Principal's Perspective
This year makes me think of sweet potato casserole. Not because it is my favorite. I like sweet potato casserole but really wouldn't miss the dish if it were not served during the holidays. However, for my family sweet potato casserole with the pecan topping is sentimental. Sweet potato casserole sentimental??? Yes! My dad loved sweet potato casserole but was allergic to pecans. So the cooks in the family always topped the casserole with a mixture of pecans, brown sugar and butter except for a small corner of the dish. My dad passed away five years ago during the holiday season. So to this day, we make the sweet potato casserole with a corner of the dish without pecans. I wonder in future generations in my family will they still have a Thanksgiving menu with sweet potato casserole with a carefully carved out corner without pecans?
As we look forward to this holiday season. I hope that we all take time to cherish our family time. That we fondly remember those that are no longer with us. I also hope that we take time to be thankful for our blessings such as our school family, our friendships and our family. I wish you a holiday season building precious memories with those that you are thankful for!
