IMPORTANT INFORMATION
AVID Home Connection
Organization and goal setting are several important components of AVID Elementary. Below is a planning calendar and goal setting sheet for students to use at home. Our goal is teach students skills they will use in their life to stay focused.
Box Tops and Pop Tabs
- Box Tops - These provide money to our school. You can send them to school or scan them using the Box Top app.
- Pop Tabs - We are collecting these for the Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City.
Cold Weather Guidelines
What if my child needs to stay inside for recess?
- Page 41 in the Student Parent Handbook: Students are expected to go out for recess each day. If your child needs to be excused from recess for more than three days, a written doctor's recommendation is required. Thank you!
Marathon Teams
- October: Kindness (created a paper donut with ways to be kind)
- November: Empathy (created Happy Kits and cards for Children's Mercy)
- December: Self-Control (learned self-control exercises)

STEAM Night - January 23
On January 23rd, from 6:00-7:30 we will host our 2nd STEAM Night. Your family will be able to participate in several tasks that relate to science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Last year’s event was especially popular and we would love for it to be a success a second time around. What can you do to help?
We need supplies found right in your homes. We want to ensure we have enough materials so that your child/children can experience each activity, the egg drop experiment being one of the most popular! We would love donations of the following materials:
CLEAN Egg cartons
Packing peanuts
Bubble wrap
CLEAN Plastic containers (yogurt, cottage cheese, butter, etc)
Pipe cleaners
Cardboard of all types (boxes included)
Paper towel rolls
Aluminum Foil
Craft sticks
Cotton balls
AA and AAA batteries
Two-Hour Late Start
If we announce a delayed start for students, school will start two hours after normal time at every school, and morning bus pick-up times will be two hours after the normal pick-up times. School will end at its normal time, and afternoon bus drop-off times will be the same as usual.
If a parent or guardian believes, based on personal circumstances, that conditions pose a safety concern for their child to get to or from school, they can call the school for an excused absence.
