Welcome to the end of week 8. This week we have celebrated 'Wig Wednesday' and the introduction, by the Class Reps, of wearing our PJ's too! A great day! We raised $345 for Child Cancer foundation - thanks for your support of this charity!

On Thursday we had a surprise visit by two pukeko's who were here to promote 'Caught being good day' an initiative from the Let's go at the NPDC. This was not advertised as we wanted to catch kids walking, running, scootering, park and walking and biking to school. Well done to all those who won prizes!

On Wednesday we said goodbye to Megan and Harold who have been here for a week in the Life Ed truck. The kids certainly enjoy their trips to the Life Ed truck and the messages that Megan and Harold present. Each child receives a follow up book from Life Ed, so ask your child what they discussed with Harold and have a look at the books.

This week coming we have our last interschool sports day with Woodleigh School. We are going to be playing for a new trophy - a rock out of the Huatoki river as this is the river that borders both schools. Lets hope we can win this rock in it's first competition!

We also celebrate our wonderful Vogeltowners at the first 'Vogeltowner Assembly' on Friday. All students who have achieved this award will have received a formal letter inviting family and whanau to the assembly at 2pm on Friday. We will also be welcoming our awesome new Korowai to the school at this assembly - a beautiful taonga donated to the school by the Ansell whanau!

Interschool date:

27 June - vs Woodleigh School (at VS) Games start 11.45am

A message from Tranzit about passing school buses:

Tranzit says it’s important to put children’s safety first and is reminding all parents, staff and students who drive of their responsibilities. These include:

  • When driving past a stationary school bus the speed limit is 20kmph either direction
  • When driving through a school zone, the speed limit is 40kmph;
  • When driving behind a school bus please note they must come to a complete stop at an uncontrolled railway crossing – so be prepared to stop too;
  • All school buses carrying passengers must slow down and be prepared to stop at a controlled railway crossing, so please watch your travelling distance and be prepared to stop too;
  • Passengers will load and unload from the front door of a bus, so please pass with caution at the correct speed of 20kmph.

In the last week of this term, every child will be bringing home a 'competencies' mid year report. This report is on the personal and social competencies that we endeavour to teach at Vogeltown. The key competencies are a major part of the NZ curriculum and an important part of learning at Vogeltown.

In Term 3 we will be reporting on the curriculum areas - showing progress from Term 1. The key part of these progress reports is the 'Learning Conferences' we have with whanau. More info about these will come out in Term 3.

Well done to these students who received a Principal award today:

Cotto Rapira, Jai Hikaka, Harpah Bowyer, Lewis Newland, Liam Wildbore, Sarah Venables, Sophie Welch, Oscar Hurley, Tyler Paton-Bloor, Nico Viljoen, Imanii Osborne, Tom Henry, Harlan Goodin, Telle Beer-Rauner, Hayden Graham, Arihana Carroll, Shakinah McElderry, Kaylee Rutherford, Charlotte Hall, Jamie Taylor, Lienke-Mari Du Plessis, Demalyah Wiremu, Ella Ansell, Tyler D'Ath, Aiden Greenhill, Lucy Christian. Our new team of the Home & School invite you to our get together on 25 June at 7pm (Vogeltown School Staffroom) where we meet in a relaxed environment, have a cuppa and discuss fundraising ideas and how we can help the school, we would love to have some fresh ideas and new parents on board. Don’t be shy, we are a very friendly bunch of parents and teachers!

A special thanks to the parents who helped at the sports exchange, there were some pretty delicious plates provided by our families that went down extremely well by all the children so thank you very much! We do have another sports exchange coming up against Woodeigh on the 27th June, we again will be looking for some parent help from 12ish onwards. This involves setting up the provided food for the after match snack, getting some drinks organised and cleaning up. Many hands make light work!

The end of term is fast approaching which also means the mid winter swim is coming up, the Home & School provide our brave swimmers a warm drink and we are looking for some helpers for this please.

If you are able to help us with the sports exchange, mid winter swim or would like to discuss any ideas you may have, please either flick us an email to vshomeandschool@gmail.com or contact Tania on 027 777 4859.

Enjoy your weekend Whanau

Mr Stirling and Miss King going overseas

This week a letter came home for the students of Rm 4 and Rm 13 explaining what will be happening in these classrooms in Term 3.

Last year Mr Stirling and Miss King both applied to the Vogeltown Board of Trustees to take Term 3 off and go overseas. The Board agreed to this and we hope that they both have a great time travelling to new countries, being a part of different cultures and that they bring some of these learnings back to Vogeltown!

In Rm 13 for Term 3 we will have Miss Elly Fleming - who is currently overseas! Elly went to Vogeltown as a student and has taught at Woodleigh School and relieved at Vogeltown - Rm 13 are very lucky.

In Rm 4 we welcome Mrs Melody who is going to move two doors down from Rm 6 to take Rm 4 five days a week - thanks Mrs Melody, Rm 4 are already excited about this! To help Mrs Lash in Rm 6 we welcome back Mrs Stone.

A big thanks to all the parents and whanau of Rm 4 and Rm 13 for your understanding with these moves. We know this will be a smooth transition for each class and will not affect the learning and teaching in these classes.

Jump Jam at the Basketball

On the 4th of July some Vogeltowners are performing at the Mountainairs Basketball game. The game starts at 7pm.

This year the "discounted pass offer" - Adults $10 Children $5 - is extended to anyone from school, who would like to come along to the game and support their Jump Jam team. This includes their families and friends. The winners of the jump jam will be the school that brings the most supporters and makes the most noise for their team once the jump jam has finished. The prize is a SCHOOL DISCO provided by Seismic Events which is the lovely Adrian Elmoose.

Mrs Seed will leave some discounted pass offer slips at the Junior and Senior school offices. They need to bring them back by Monday 1 July.

We have a massive amount of lost property at the senior school! Currently we have 3 large rubbish bags full. We will try and put this out on the court on fine days for the kids to look at. If you think your child might be missing some clothing, then come and have a look through the lost property. At the end of the term we send the lost property to the Salvation Army.

Thanks, Mr Mac.

At present we have 21 ukuleles at Vogeltown School. There are 35 Senior children that would like to join our ukulele club for 2019. If you have a spare uke or 2 lying around at home, that you haven’t used for a while, maybe you could donate it to our school. It would be very much appreciated.
