Highlander Highlights
NWR7 District Updates | September 2023
Superintendent's September Reflections:
Greetings Northwestern Students, Families, and Staff Members:
It is my privilege to share my first monthly Superintendent’s District Newsletter with you. My goal in producing this newsletter is to highlight some of the great things happening at Northwestern and share important district updates and information.
The summer period was filled with many projects, preparations and planning all of the logistics required to be ready for everyone’s return after summer vacation. Preparing the school facilities for the start of the school year is an extensive process that requires a total team effort. Before our teachers and students return, our custodians must ensure that our school is fully cleaned, floors are resurfaced and polished, and everything is ready for the first day. These preparations must all take place during the short window of time between the end of summer programs and the beginning of the school year.
It has been an outstanding start to our school year and I could not be more pleased or impressed with the caliber and kindness of our school community. Despite a record breaking heat wave and unprecedented rainfalls creating some unique challenges, we are off to a terrific start up here on the hill. It has been nice to meet many parents at the orientations, open houses, and various athletic events. I am really enjoying each opportunity to get to know our students throughout the course of the school day and through athletic events. I have been impressed by how polite, conscientious and respectful the overwhelming majority of students have been.
I’ve always worked best in a close-knit team atmosphere, and it has become apparent that such an atmosphere and climate exists here at Northwestern. The positive climate and school spirit is evident everywhere. I have never experienced anything quite like our high school’s spirit week and homecoming festivities last week, especially the school decorating event last Thursday evening. The creativity and class pride was on full display all around the high school, but more importantly, the feeling of pride in being a Highlander is obvious on a daily basis throughout the entire middle school, high school, and agricultural education program. I look forward to partnering with our school and surrounding community to maintain and build upon the wonderful culture here.
I was assured that I was coming to a really great place, and it is clear that those assurances were accurate. In short, I am enjoying my new professional home in the beautiful northwestern hills.
Thank you for your trust and support in me and our entire Northwestern team. I fully understand that we are entrusted with the education, care and support of your children, and we take that responsibility very seriously. We will continue to do our very best to ensure the most positive and successful outcomes, for each student we serve.
I hope you have a wonderful fall season and look forward to sharing another update at the end of October. If you have suggestions or requested additions to my newsletter, please reach out and share your ideas.
In partnership,
Steve LePage, Superintendent
Weather-related schedule changes are among the most important and potentially consequential decisions a superintendent must make. Please review this weather-related decisions letter for a detailed understanding of the process and communication plan related to school closures, late opening and early dismissals. I hope for a year with minimal weather disruptions, and appreciate your anticipated understanding and support of such decisions in the interests of safety.
Best regards,
Steve LePage
