Saturday, 11/19 - Holiday Spec Rehearsal for all choirs, bring donations for the Backpack Program Food Drive (ugly holiday clothing spirit day), Don't forget about your Spec Buddy! Poinsettia pick up in field house before 1pm. Select Sound caroling at the opening of Christkindlmarkt.

Holiday Spectacular Volunteers Needed

-Over 400 singer/dancers from TEN choirs!

-Over 40 instrumentalists in the Spec Pit Orchestra

-Over 30 students on tech crew

-5 rehearsals outside of school

-5 sold out performances of over 1,000 people


The combination of all of the above means that we need A LOT of volunteers to pull this off! We need ALL choir parents to find at least a small way to help during this most wonderful time of the year. With five performances, you can enjoy just being a spectator for a night or two, and then give a bit of time during another show to allow other parents to relax.

Excused Absence Notification:

If students will miss any of the required rehearsals or performance, they MUST let their directors know ASAP. For foreseeable absences, students must submit this form at least two weeks in advance, and they will be expected to complete a make-up assignment for each day they miss. For last minute, emergency absences, students or parents MUST notify the director ASAP via email, canvas message, or even by texting or calling the director. It is imperative that we know in advance if a student will not per at a performance or rehearsal. Students will have until the last day of the semester to submit make-up assignments for their absences. They can speak directly to their individual choir director for details regarding make-up assignments. Silent Auction Donations Needed

We are looking for donations of items for this year’s Holiday Spectacular Silent Auction. If you have anything to donate or have connections to businesses who might donate please email Melissa Neglia at mneglia@sbcglobal.net. We are tracking all donation requests so reach out first to see if that business has already been contacted. We are collecting items, experiences and gift cards. Smaller donations will be combined in baskets so anything is appreciated. You can share the attached donation request letter that includes the tax ID number with anyone who might be interested in donating.


Each choir will sponsor a themed basket as seen in the photo below. We ask each student to either donate one NEW item that fits their class theme, or if they would prefer, they can Venmo a donation instead. We recommend a Venmo donation of between $10-$20 per student. See your class theme below, as well as the Venmo code for the volunteer parent willing to do the extra shopping for each choir. Tickets for this year's Holiday Spectacular will go on sale this week for the general public will go on sale starting at 9am on November 9th. We expect all five performances to sell-out as usual, so do not wait to get your tickets to this popular event. All details about how to purchase tickets can be found in the document linked below. Solo & Ensemble Registration

The Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Solo & Ensemble Festival will be on January 28, 2023. This is a wonderful opportunity for advanced students to sing a prepared "classical" or "folk" song for a judge and receive a critique, feedback, and rating. Students can enter as a soloist or join with others and enter as an ensemble. Students who register for this event must find and prepare an appropriate song on their own or with their own private voice teacher. They must also find their own accompanist for the event. We do not recommend this event unless students have a private voice teacher, or a trained adult who can help coach them through preparation.


Mrs. Anna DeBard is the contact teacher for this event. Students can see her in the choir office, P116, to find out more details about the registration cost, and to pick up registration materials.

Donations of Door Prizes Needed

In between the two performances of Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, December 3, we will host a holiday party/dinner for the cast and crew of the show in the cafeteria at CHS. Each year, we draw names during dinner and give away little door prizes to the students. We are seeking donations of little prizes for this year's giveaway. These should be $5 and under in value and must be wrapped so that we cannot see what they are. Items from 5 Below, or the dollar bins at Target are perfect! (candy, chapstick, socks, $5 Starbucks cards, fidgits, etc.).We prefer that items are not gender specific, but if they are, please mark the outside of the item appropriately. We need all items dropped off to the choir office P116 by Dec. 1. Thank you in advance for your donations!

Performance Opportunity

Rachel McClellan is the traditional worship director of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church in Fishers. She would like to give local high school students a performance opportunity on Christmas Eve. The church choir will be singing Jazz Gloria by Natalie Sleeth and the first section of Vivaldi’s Gloria on Christmas Eve. Vivaldi will be sung with a professional brass quintet. They would love the choir to have some boost in singers for these special pieces for Christmas Eve. Anyone can be involved!

Here is the run down: Rehearsals are on Sundays from 10-11 am and Wednesdays from 6:30-8 pm. There is a rehearsal with the brass Saturday morning, December 17 (time TBA). If students can make 4 rehearsals (out of the 11) that would be great! No rehearsal the following Wednesdays – November 23 and 30.

Christmas Eve service is at 9 pm (call time 8 pm).

ON-LINE MUSIC THEORY CURRICULUM

At the start of second quarter, we introduced all choir classes to our On-Line Music Theory Program that we will be using this year. It is called "Breezin' Thru Theory". Students will need to login daily for assignments. They can do these on any device including a laptop, tablet, or smart phone. Their assignments can be viewed on the dashboard of the theory website, or on Powerschool. Please be sure students are completing assignments in a timely manner.

Physical Gift Card Sale

Nov. 17 & 18 Physical Gift Card Sale:

The physical cards will hopefully be here the following week and Natalie Oehler, our Raise Right Chairperson, will contact everyone on how to get them to you. These make amazing gifts for the holidays and are sold at face value, just as if you purchased them in a store, except a small percentage of the amount you spend on the cards, will go directly back to your child's choir account and will be deducted from their choir fee balance.


This is an easy way to make money to pay for choir fees and trips. Just head over to the Raise Right website sign up under the CHS Ovation Club, Carmel IN and make sure your choir member's name is added to your account. You can have your friends and family members sign up and add to your account. Just make sure your choir members name is on their account to be applied correctly.


Once you are signed up, Raise Right is very good at sending out emails when companies will increase their percentage and you will make even more money for your choir member's account.


REMEMBER: Ecards can be ordered anytime and can be used immediately.
