Problem Solving in Computer Science
Students in Mrs. Lisa Ellis' Computer Science class at Carver Middle School used a hands on approach to Problem Solving. They were challenged to build an aluminum boat that would hold as many pennies as possible. All students were successful in that their boat would hold at least 15 pennies while one surpassed the expectation and remained afloat with 415 pennies.
Scotland FFA Flourishing
The Scotland High School FFA participated in the Lumber River FFA Federation Forestry Career Development Event at the Lumber River State Park. The team placed second and qualified to participate in the regional competition in May. Members of the team are Tristan York, Brady Weeks, Mira Ward, and Athena Ward. Their advisor is Reid Ledbetter.
HOSA Students in Action
The Scotland High School HOSA CTSO assisted with providing flu shots for our staff. They learned how to properly prepare and administer flu shots. The students were Maribel Reyes, Mariana Garcia, Brenna Glover, Anniya Davis, Latoya Love and Allie Andrews. They did a great job!
CTE Monthly Meeting
The September CTE Monthly Meetings were held recently. Teachers had an opportunity to collaborate on a challenge to build the tallest Lego tower. Once they were completed each team discussed how the process could be connected to our work with Learning Focused. The message was "strong foundation leads to taller tower" and "make progress with the process."
Ms. Ingram provided an overview of Career Cruising and Special Populations data. Instructions were given on how to use the CTE Resource Folder with the Special Populations Handbook and Strategies Guide provided by the EC Department.
Student Spotlight - Hannah Smith
Hannah Smith is a senior at Scotland High School. Currently, she is taking welding with Mr. Freeman. Hannah is excelling in her course. Mr. Freeman said she is a fantastic welder. He feels that Hannah is well on her way to establishing skills that will lead to a high paying career. In addition to her welding courses, Hannah is enrolled in AP US History and AP Physics. We are excited about Hannah's future!
Teacher Spotlight - Kendra Faries
Kendra Faries is a Health Science teacher at Scotland High School. She is an advisor for HOSA and serves as the President-Elect for NCACTE.
Ms. Faries did an excellent job with presenting to SHS Faculty & Staff Meeting on Monday, September 25th. She presented on how she uses Speed Grader in Canvas. In the picture, she is assisting a new CTE teacher, Neil Smith with the Canvas App on his phone.
