Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
Dear Cape Families,
During the month of November, we are reminded of all the things for which we are thankful each day. Our Cape families are at the top of our list! We hope you take time to reflect on all the wonderful joys you have in your lives. We are very thankful and privileged to work with students at Cape Elementary. Each one of them is our joy!
Our Trunk or Treat event was huge success. We had over 800 people attend along with 20 trunks and over 12,000 pieces of candy donated. Once again, our Cape families’ donations and support created a special evening for our students.
On Friday, November 9 at 8:15 a.m., we will thank and honor our veterans in a very special ceremony at Cape Elementary. We would like to invite any veterans in our community to attend. Please share the date and time with any veteran you may know or call the school with the veteran’s information, and we can mail an invitation.
As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for many of our students to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank:
· Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will promote success in the classroom and eventually in a job.
· Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss learning.
· Our support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
We appreciate each one of you so much. We look forward to seeing you after the Thanksgiving holiday. We would especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving and winter holidays. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they are excused absences, can add up to lost learning time and leave your child behind in school.
We are honored and privileged to be part of the Cape family. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Nicole Osterholm and Kristi Sund

Attendance Matters....Did You Know?
· Across the country 5 million to 7.5 million students are missing nearly a month of school.
· 10% of Kindergarten and 1st Grade students miss too much school, which stalls progress in their reading and denies those students an equal opportunity to learn.
· Research shows the 3 chief reasons for chronic absences has to do with a student’s physical health, oral health and mental health and trauma.
· Cape Elementary believes all our students can SOAR and we want to help with any barriers to attendance, so please reach out to administration, the school social worker, the school guidance counselor and school nurse for help.

From Our School Nurse
Vision problems can impact learning. Please encourage your child to wear their glasses as needed in class. If you received a Referral for Visual Examination, please ask your eye examiner to complete the form and return it to school in care of your school nurse. Also, please let your school nurse know if you need assistance in obtaining glasses for your child. Thank you.
