Class of 2020
Senior Class Newsletter
April 2020 Issue
Greetings families –
We hope this newsletter will answer some of the many questions we have been hearing through voice mails, emails and social media. We know there is so much unknown at this time and we are working as best we can to resolve what we know as quickly as possible. Please understand, when you hear information from the state for the first time, we are all hearing it for the first time as well. It does take time for us to formulate a plan and put processes into place that will keep us all healthy and safe. We also want to make sure our actions have been thought through on many different levels, so we don’t change horses in mid-stream and cause more disruption and uncertainty in your lives right now.
We are still working to try and salvage as much of the end of the year as possible. This isn’t how we wanted the year to end for you either and we too are reeling from not being able to celebrate so many of the milestones you were achieving as we traditionally have. We too didn’t realize the significance of March 13 and wished we would have seen more of you as you left the building that day. This doesn’t mean we are done with the year however! There will be more information coming in the next few weeks and we ask that you make sure your email addresses and phone numbers in Skyward are current. If you need to make changes, please contact Mrs. LaDeaux at 360-874-5602 or email her at ladeauxe@skschools.org.
Let me leave you with one last request, to look at your perspective at this time. Yes, we are losing out on some ‘coming of age’ or ‘rites of passage’ for young adults; but, for as much as the Senior year is about the culmination of 13 years, it is also about celebrating the milestones of the previous 12. Let’s focus on what you have accomplished thus far. If there is one thing we have learned from walking with you these last 4 years is that this bump in the road is not going to slow you down. It will only motivate you to go further and do greater things in your lives.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We are still working and would love to hear from you with how you are doing, further questions you may have or even just drop a ‘hello’. Emails are best at this time. We will be in touch as new information comes to us and can’t wait until we can see you again in person.
Your Senior Team,
Freda Evans – Vice Principal evansf@skschools.org
Dave Bufano – Counselor A-K bufano@skschools.org
Janna Viergutz – Counselor L-Z viergutz@skschools.org

Post High School Plans & Laurels Recognition!
We may not be together right now, but we want to celebrate your post high school plans. Let us know what’s next!
If you are:
- Joining the military.
- Going to a university or college, community college, technical college or trade school.
- Pursuing an apprenticeship or job opportunity.
Please email a copy of your enlistment letter or letters of acceptance to colleges to Ms. Greene at greene@skschools.org so we can include your name and school or branch of service in an upcoming presentation that will be posted online.
*Note: If you dropped off letters or the green form in the Guidance Office before we closed, we have your information and you do not need to resubmit it.
In addition, we will be creating a virtual Laurels Night! Once you have all your scholarship and award letters, please send those to Ms. Greene, along with which college you’ve chosen to attend next fall.
Please be aware that both presentations will be posted online, so by submitting your information, you are giving us permission to share your plans with the whole world!
Deadline for submission: May 31, 2020, but feel free to email your post-high school plan information right away.

What's going to happen about our Graduation Ceremony?
While we are all still hopeful that the State will allow districts to conduct commencement ceremonies as planned in June, there has been no official word on whether or not this will happen....so things like the Tacoma Dome, Prom and Grad Night plans are still on hold.
Contingency measures are being discussed should we be faced with not being able to get together to celebrate and honor the Class of 2020 in person.
There will be more coming from the high school soon on how to submit your best senior photos and video moments for a potential "Virtual" Graduation Celebration!
If you have questions about plans for the Senior Parent Grad Night committee you can email them directly to: SKGrad2020@gmail.com
Can students still buy Yearbooks?
We will have a plan for distribution when we have more information.
