Curriculum Night Date Change
Arrival and Dismissal Plan for 21-22
General Information
Our building has 14 walkies for arrival/dismissal purposes.
All arrival plans cite the need for a staff member to have a To-Go PPE Kit handy. (Evans/busses, Smith/car loop, McMaster/gazebo). This should include items such as extra masks for those students arriving without one, gloves and hand sanitizer.
Any ancillary staff members in the building for the day should be outdoors to support the movement of students to their designated arrival and dismissal locations.
Parents/visitors will be encouraged to stay out of the Kurtz building bubble if at all possible and instead, plan on scheduling visits with classroom teachers.
Parents accompanying walkers are encouraged to remain distant from the building. Please use the soccer field. Do not bring pets into close proximity to the building or close to students, other than your own.
Arrival Plan
Car Riders -
At the student drop-off loop (car loop), support staff will receive cars/students.
Staff members should assist students as usual exiting the vehicle.
At the doors, students will walk directly to their assigned teacher’s designated door. These spaces are the same as they were in the spring. All classroom teachers will be outside, at their door, at 9:00 am. Students will enter the building with their teacher at 9:10. Classroom teachers will be visible at a designated grade level spot to receive students.
Mrs. McMaster and Mrs. Papciak will be in the gazebo to help kindergarten walkers get to their classroom line.
Bus Riders -
Staff Responsibility - There will be a total of three staff members, Ms. Sager, Mrs. Miller and Ms. Evans who will supervise bus riders. There will be one staff member for every 2 busses (Ms. Sager and Mrs. Miller) and one staff member (Ms. Evans) to receive any unhealthy students. Staff members receiving busses will unload busses one at a time, and walk students to designated spaces. If two busses arrive at the same time, the second bus driver should hold students until the first bus of students has been unloaded and escorted to their classroom teachers. If all students are healthy, Ms. Evans will escort any late bus riders to class.
At Bus - Students will get off the bus and prepare to be led by a teacher to their designated classroom space, out in front of the building. Students will not stop at the cafeteria for breakfast as breakfast will be brought down to the classroom once the school day is started.
Traveling at Kurtz - Once all students have gotten off the bus, a staff member will travel with students to their designated outdoor classroom spaces. Students will be encouraged to remain socially distant (Think airplane arms).
At Doors - Students will be dropped off to their assigned teacher at their designated classroom space. Classroom teachers will be visible at the front of the building at designated spots, to receive students, starting at 9:00.
Walkers -
Parents of walkers must respect our building bubble. If you choose to walk your child to the building, please park in a designated space and escort your child to their entry door. See map below to see where your child enters the building.
Arriving - Walkers in grades 1-5 will walk (independent of parent, after the first week) directly to their designated outdoor classroom space. Kindergarten walkers will report to the gazebo where Mrs. McMaster and Mrs. Papciak will help to transition them to their outdoor designated space. Parents must remain outside of our building bubble. Parents are encouraged to wait on the soccer field. Parents/visitors may approach the gazebo, but are encouraged to avoid clustering as much as possible.
All Students Entering the Building -
Teachers bring students into the classroom and release students to coat rooms to prepare for the day.
Students will be encouraged to hang up coats, quickly take care of their materials, sanitize their hands and get to their seats.
Dismissal Plan
Car Riders -
Mr. Chisik or Mrs. Stuart will get the names of the first 12-15 cars in the loop at 3:55 pm. Names will be called over the walkies to get students on deck for dismissal, following the departure of the special ed busses.
Office walkies will be given to each teacher for dismissal. Office walkies must be returned at the end of the day to their charger in the office.
Mrs. Rupp and Ms. Sager will call the names of students as their parent arrives in the car loop. Mrs. Smith, Mr. Chisik, and all available specials staff members will support.
How and When Names are Called - Students’ names will be announced by staff members (Mrs. Rupp or Ms. Sager) over the walkies. Ms. Sager will start announcing student names at 4:05. Students will stage outside until the special ed busses leave at 4:07.
Leaving the Building - Students will remain in classrooms until they hear their name called. Students will exit out of the same door they entered in the morning and walk to their car rider loop space.
Staff Responsibility - Available ancillary/specials staff members present will be placed at/near dismissal doors and around the media center to guide students to either cars or busses. All classroom teachers are to remain in class, except for Mrs. Rupp, who will be on a walkie in the car rider loop and Mrs. Spurlock and Mrs. Latimer who will support students getting on the bus. Once all students are dismissed, all classroom teachers should go outside to ensure safety and the completion of the dismissal process.
Bus Riders-
CATS begin traveling to the busses at 3:55.
Office calls the bus order over the PA at 4:00.
Bus numbers will be called over the PA from the office. Bus riders will be dismissed from their classrooms and follow the circle around the media center, down the main hallway and out the gym door. A designated staff member will be on hand to ensure social distancing around the media center, a second in the main hallway and Ms. Evans and Mrs. Miller will be waiting to escort the students to their bus, one bus at a time. When a bus arrives, only those students who ride that bus will be leaving their classrooms.
All available staff will help to ensure students are walking safely to the busses.
Leaving Building - Students will remain in the classrooms until they hear their bus number called. Bus riders will all exit through the door in the gym.
Materials Needed - The To-Go Kit is needed with student roster, with bus list numbers.
Late busses can wait in the gym.
Walkers-
Walkers will be dismissed with the bell at 4:07, by designated support staff. They will be allowed to exit the building through the doors next to the computer lab. A staff member will be on hand to ensure social distancing.
