Hamlin Elementary

Library Media Center

Hello Hamlin families!

My name is Kathleen Bateman, and I am very excited to be the new Information Literacy Specialist for Hamlin Elementary School. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your wonderful students and to be part of Rochester Community Schools.

After graduating from Central Michigan University with my Bachelor of Education degree, I spent the last seven years in a K-8 school in Warren. I began my career as a classroom teacher, but I quickly found my true passion with library and educational technology. I completed my Master of Library and Information Science degree from Wayne State University in 2008. I have worked as a Media Specialist for the last five years, and I look forward to continuing my work in this subject with your students.

This year, I am committed to helping your students develop a love of reading, as well as an understanding of the broad subject area of information science. This includes the format of non-fiction text, genres of literature, elements of research, copyright compliance, and much more. I will also be working with your students in the computer lab to help them develop fluency and comfort with technology to assist them with this ever-growing facet of society. Your students will be meeting with me for an hour each week, and I look forward to starting our time together.

Please contact me with any questions. I also would like to extend a warm welcome to parent volunteers in the media center. Look for information regarding that soon!

Thank you for stopping in the media center, and I look forward to working together to ensure your student's success.
