an exaggerated or irrational fear of mirrors.

Causes

Often times the product of a traumatic event or experience involving mirrors. The event usually happens in early childhood. Also, it can be the result of a person's superstition of being watched in the mirror. Result of low self esteem associated with physical looks or appearance. Fear of breaking the mirror.

Symptoms

Symptoms include extreme anxiety, dread in association with panic, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and shaking.

Treatments

While treatments for phobias are often unsuccessful, a few treatments can be attempted. Medicine, counseling, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, and Neuro-Linguistic programming.
