EARLY DISMISSAL - OCTOBER 14TH! STUDENTS ARE DISMISSED AT 12:10 p.m.
Construction Update From Principal Langston
Thank you for watching the video we prepared to keep you informed about construction at Oyster Creek. If you were on campus last week, you saw the job site trailer located near the bike racks. Because of it's arrival on Thursday, we did a trial run with our walkers for the adjusted dismissal both Thursday and Friday. The trial run allowed us to see what our needs are for keeping our students dismissing in a safe and orderly manner.
Based on what we've learned, this is how you can help us to help your children adjust quickly:
- We need more space near the corner stop sign for our crossing guard to be most effective and for students to be able to see their parents.
- We need parents to no longer park in the school parking lot to pick up walkers. This is particularly important because the spaces on the back row will be designated for the construction crew vehicles. Also, because we will still have students on the sidewalk, walking back to a car in the parking lot will be a disruption to the order and safety needed.
- If you are driving to pick up a walker, make sure you are not blocking the car rider line. If you drive to pick up a walker every day, it is better for your child to become a car rider. Please visit our front desk for a car rider tag and let the teacher know of the change.
- Students who walk without being met by an adult, will be released first.
- Please be mindful of the areas where there is no parking during school hours.
We will help guide you as much as possible with cones and with the help of Fort Bend Authorities. I know that the first few days are challenging but, I have no doubt that our students and parents will settle into this adjustment quickly.
Thank you for your patience and for working in partnership with our faculty and staff! Go Blue Jays!

October 14th is Identity Day at OCE!
October 14th will be our 2nd Annual School-Wide Identity Fair! An identity fair is similar to a science fair with the exception that it is geared specifically to the interest of the individual. The purpose of this fair is two-fold. The fair will empower students to show other students something (one thing) they find really special about themselves. It will also give our entire school community the opportunity to learn about each other, and the chance of conflict goes down the more we know about other people.
When creating their displays, students should explore the following questions: What is one thing about me that I would like to share? What are some ways that I can share this with others? In what creative ways can I display this information? Although there will not be any specific criteria set in place in regards to what you share or how the information is presented, there is an expectation that all students and staff participate in this event.
We are looking forward to seeing the interest and creativity your child will share with others. Below are some examples to give you an idea of what this day will be about.

Character Education Update
We have so many great things going on in October to support our Character Education program!
October’s BIG IDEA
October’s character education trait is COURAGE. Courage means being brave enough to do what you should do even when you’re afraid. Maya Angelou said, “Develop enough courage so that you can stand up for yourself and then stand up for somebody else.” In October we talk a lot about friendship and building relationships. Talk to you kids about what they would do if someone was being mean to one of their friends. When we talk to our kids about what they would do “if,” it prepares them for the “when.” Preparation can help when it’s time to make courageous decisions.
October 19th – Unity Day – Together against bullying – united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. WEAR ORANGE! It can be an orange t-shirt, tie, hat, wristband, socks, or even shoelaces! We will have special activities on Unity Day to support kindness!
Red Ribbon
The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign®. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America.
In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Week® celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Since that time, the campaign has reached millions of U.S. children and families.
OCE’s Red Ribbon Week is October 24th – October 28th. The students will sign a school wide pledge to remain drug free, listen to important announcements about leading a healthy lifestyle, and take part in different theme days to show their support! Please the a quick break down of our theme days (October 24th – 28th) below.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS AT OCE!
FBISD Tips to Improve Your Child's Attendance
Ultimately, parents are responsible for getting their children to school. Here are a few tips to consider:- Schedule doctor’s appointments before or after school or during holidays.
- If your child is ill, email the Attendance Clerk the first morning of their absence.
- Arrive to school on time and attend every class period.
- Make school attendance a habit. This can carry over when seeking employment.
- Ask for help from your campus counselor if you are having trouble with your child.
