Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre
In the Learning Resource Centre we do our absolute best to be innovative and inclusive in meeting the diverse needs and demands of our learners and staff.
We have an extensive range of print and electronic resources and other learning materials to support you in your studies, if you need something and can’t find it then pop to the desk and ask! We hope that you feel comfortable when working in the LRC, our aim is to help you get the most out of your time at college and support you along the way.
We are always happy to help!
Rooms
The Learning Resource Centre has rooms available for the following:
· Silent Study
· Group Work
· A dedicated Higher Education Room
· Tutorial Rooms for independent study
· The Core for support with English and Maths
LRC Learning Zone
This area is located at the back of the LRC, where you
see the Interactive Whiteboard. Your tutor can book this
area for support sessions with one of the LTAs. Here you
will learn anything from how to access the VLE to how to
create a Prezi!

The Team
We have a dedicated team of qualified and experienced staff that are happy to support LRC users to access resources and make the most of the facilities available.
Dewey Decimal
Non-fiction books are shelved according to their Dewey Decimal number. Fiction materials are shelved by the author’s last name.

500 Pure Sciences
600 Technology & Applied Arts
700 The Arts

900 General Geography and History

Journals
We stock a number of different journals in the LRC which are delivered weekly, fortnightly, monthly depending on the issue of the journal. Titles include:

Nursery World
Harper’s Bazaar
Nursing Times
Dancing Times

Make Up Magazine
Stage
Tourism
Times Higher Education
British Journal of Nursing
The Journals and Newspapers in the LRC cannot be taken out, they are reference only, to be used in the LRC.
Athens
Athens is an online treasure trove of resources that you can access at college or at home on a computer, tablet or phone. You can access online books, journals, interactive resources and images at the touch of a button.
To access your Athens the first time you’ll need to check your college email, look for the email from Eduserv Athens, (you might have to check your junk folder!) and activate your account by clicking on the blue link. You will be asked to create a password to log into Athens.
Your Athens username is your ID number preceded by sbc, e.g. sbc12345678.
The next time you need to access Athens, go to the college website www.stockton.ac.uk and click on the link to Athens or go directly to www.athens.ac.uk
Events
Starting after the October half term on Wednesday afternoons, you will be able to pop along to our Book Club with Catherine! Please look out for notices and tweets advertising the start date and time.
Halloween Bran Tub
Our Halloween Bran Tub was a great success, we received fantastic feedback and would like to thank everyone that took part.
Look out for future events taking place in LRC. We will advertise in the LRC, on Twitter and on the VLE.
Fiction
Since September we have purchased lots of new fiction for you to borrow. Below are a few of the titles that we have on offer. All fiction books are available on a four week loan basis.

Kit
You can not only borrow books from the LRC, you can also borrow various items of kit. We have following available:
· iPads
· Kindles
· Digital Cameras
· Video Cameras
· Notebooks for use in the LRC
· Digital Voice Recorders
· Accessibility kit such as large key keyboards
· Card Readers
· Whiteboard Pens
· Skype Kits
These can be loaned on a daily basis. All you need to do is bring your student card to the LRC desk and ask!
Map
A map of the LRC is located on the noticeboard on the left as you come through the door. This not only shows you the layout of the area, but also provides an up to date list of computer software to support you with your studies
