Reading Grades for Quarter 2

Due to 5 days left of the quarter, we are asking teachers to give your averages for the students you have to your teammate who has access to those students for reading. You can put in one assignment as quarter grade and input the grade. Please share the comment numbers you wish the students to receive for the report card also.


We will look into how to move the entire class to the correct teacher once third quarter starts.

Crystal Apple Award presented by Horace Mann

On Wednesday, Horace Mann will present a Crystal Apple Award to an unsuspecting teacher/staff member in Hamlet at 9:30 am and to an unsuspecting teacher/staff member in Villa Nova at 10:30 am. Keep your ears tuned for an announcement at that time. Thank you to all who completed a nomination form!

Barnes and Noble - My Favorite Teacher Essay Contest - Submit Completed Entries to Tonya

Who Can Participate: Middle and High School Students.

Here's How It Works: Students write an essay, poem, or thank-you letter (500 words or less, in English on 8.5" x 11" white paper) sharing how a teacher has influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire them. Each entry should be submitted with the entry form and a parent or legal guardian must sign the entry form acknowledging that they have read the Official Contest Rules. Deadline for entries is March 1, 2016. Winners are selected, and the local store and community celebrations begin! Forms must be postmarked by March 1, 2016.

What Students Get: The students who author the winning essays, poems, or thank-you letters will receive a certificate of recognition and be honored at their local store during a ceremony for the winning teachers from their schools. In addition, the Student who authors the winning essay, poem, or thank-you letter for the teacher that wins the “Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year” will also receive a $500 Barnes & Noble gift certificate and NOOK device.

What Teachers Get: The winning teachers will be recognized at a special event at their local Barnes & Noble store and will receive a special award acknowledging their achievement and additional recognition and praise from their community. The five regional winning teachers will each receive a $500 Barnes & Noble Gift Card. The winner of the "Barnes & Noble Teacher of the Year" award will receive $5,000 and will be recognized at a special event at a Barnes & Noble store. The winning teacher's school will receive $5,000 as well.

Bananagrams Challenge - For 6th Graders only

Starting next week, four 6th graders per a cluster will compete in eight groups of four in round one of the Bananagrams Challenge. The challenge will take place one Enrichment period a week for four weeks. The fourth week with have the final game where one Hamlet and one Villa Nova student will compete to be the "TOP BANANA". We hope to have students from the clusters that are playing to watch the competition and cheer on their teammate. The winner will move on to the online challenge with hopes to win a spot in the final challenge in Providence on April 9th.


All competing students will receive a Bananagrams sticker and bracelet. The top two finishers will be able to keep the Bananagrams games. The winner will also receive a special award. ONLY 500 SCHOOLS WERE ABLE TO COMPETE!
