'Stuff the Bus' Food Drive Next Week! (Updated)
In continuing with our school theme this year to 'Lend a Helping Hand', next week, WES is proud to bring to Walkerton Elementary the First Annual 'Stuff the Bus' food drive!
Stuff the Bus is an amazing opportunity for our students to once again give back to our community!
During the week of November 8-12, we are asking our students to bring to school non-perishable food items. A list of which you can find HERE.
Similar to this week, classrooms will compete to see which room can bring in the most non-perishable food items!
Students from the winning class will receive (1) Their very own 'Stuff the Bus' t-shirt, exclusive to the winning class, (2) A pizza party with Mr. Stauffer and Mr. Fuller, and (3) That class will actually help STUFF A JOHN GLENN BUS filled with food!
We will then take this bus to our local food pantry, and all of the food we raise will go to our local familiar in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
THANK YOU again for joining us in teaching our kids the importance of giving back to their community!
(REMINDER) Leaves are Falling, and It Is Getting Cold!
Fall has come full force, as temperatures in the morning are now in the 20's!
As the weather begins to change, please remind your children that their clothes need to change as well. Coats, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. may be needed sooner rather than later.
If you need assistance in providing any type of clothing, please email Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Similarly, as the rain (and God forbid snow) begins to fall, please remember to keep it slow in the parking lot, both in the morning and afternoon. We have a lot of very excited kids eager to both come to school and go home from school, and we want to make sure we are keeping them as safe as possible.
Best of Luck to Our JGHS Band! (New)
Good luck to our Falcon Pride Marching Band in qualifying for the State Marching Band Competition!
The state competition will be TOMORROW at Lucas Oli Stadium in Indianapolis! The Falcon Pride will take the field at approximately 5:25 PM ET!
Great job to all the students and coaches! We are very proud of you!!
Veteran's Day on Thursday (New)
Veteran's Day is this Thursday, November 11th, and this year similar to last year, all four John Glenn buildings will combine to create a virtual presentation for our Veteran's.
As the son of a military police officer, there is nothing more noble than making the decision to fight for your country.
The lessons my father learned while in the military have been passed down to me and my brother, and those lessons will be passed down to my son, Benjamin.
On behalf of all of Walkerton Elementary, THANK YOU for your service, and please be on the lookout next week for the virtual presentation.
WES In Action...A Weekly Recap!
WES Devices: Chargers, and Cords Going Home (Recurring)
If/when a child is sent home for COVID related reasons, we want to ensure that each student has everything they need to meet virtually with their class(es): This includes sending home a device, charging brick, and cord.
Our Tech Department does a wonderful job of ensuring that these items are placed in a Ziploc bag with a note for each child.
As a reminder, if the charging brick and cord are not returned upon your child's returning to school, for grades KG-2nd, a $5 fee for each the charging brick and cord will be assessed to your child's account. For grades 3-6, a $20 fee will be assessed for a missing Chromebook charging brick and cord.
If items are misplaced or forgotten, we will send home a reminder to return the item, but if the charging brick or cord is not returned within 48 hours, that $5 fee will be assessed until the items are returned.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Before and After School Program Transitioning to Boys and Girls Club (Recurring)
Starting this school year, the JG Before and After School Program is transitioning into the Boys and Girls Club to provide before and after school care for our elementary students.
You should have received an email from Mr. Davis earlier this week, but if not, please click HERE for more information on the program.
With any new program, there will be some bumps along the way, but here are TWO UPDATES that will hopefully alleviate any stress:
- The wonderful individuals you have gotten to know with John Glenn B/A Care will be back as part of the Boys and Girls Club Program!
- The service will start our first day of school, Wednesday, August 11th
Please register for care as normal. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Mrs. Heather Harrison at hharrison@jgsc.k12.in.us

Principal Fuller's Thoughts
You need to make a plan.
One of my dads favorites phrases...I feel as if he would say this to me and my siblings all the time.
I can recall numerous times talking with dad, asking for advice, and more often than not, his response back would be: Son, you need to make a plan.
I've taken his words to heart: I feel like I do my best to plan for a lot of different situations...but of course there are always those moments in life that happen where you have no plan and no idea what to do.
I had a conversation with a student earlier this week, and my dad's advice was passed down from me to him.
You need to make a plan I told him.
You see, my dad taught me that their are two absolutes:
1) YOU have a choice. You either let your circumstances control your attitude OR you let your attitude control your circumstances.
2) A bad attitude comes from not being prepared. It's hard to have the wrong attitude when you know you've put in the hard work and preparation.
A lot of my conversations with students revolve around those two lessons.
Both are difficult concepts to master, but both hold such value in how we approach our EFFORT and ATTITUDE.
I talk with our students a lot about EFFORT and ATTITUDE...both so important for all of us to understand and master :)
