Growing Brains, Sharing Smiles...
Today we will be saying good bye to our school secretary, Ms. Johnson. We want to thank her for all her efforts and wish her all the best at Holy Redeemer school. As we say good-bye to one person we also want to welcome Ms. Dubuc, who will be joining us beginning Monday morning. Please help to make her feel welcome as a part of the Jean Vanier Family.
As our school division moves forward on our Connections program. I want to bring to your attention another opportunity for our parents to also grow their brains. Please see the information below on a parent evening with Dr. Jody Carrington on November 7th at St. Theresa school.
God Bless!

School Fees on PowerSchool
Parents please be aware that even though EICS is no longer charging for school fees, you are still required to pay Field Trip fees. If you have any questions or are having trouble logging into your account or unsure if your forms are complete please contact the school office. Please note, cell phones do not support the EICS app with regards to PowerSchool forms. Please log onto a laptop or desktop to update your information.
Keeping our school safe...Visiting the school
We are committed to ensuring a safe school for your children. Parents and visitors we ask you to please sign in at the office before walking the halls of the school. We ask, if you are volunteering or coming into the school for ANY reason, please sign in and let us know you are here in the building. Our responsibility in the office is knowing who is in the building at all times, especially in the case of emergency.
We also would like to kindly ask parents to wait outside at the doors for your children to be dismissed. Our halls become far too congested to have and extra bodies at the end of the day and students are working hard to learn routines. Thank-you for your cooperation and assistance with ensuring JV is a safe place for all students.
3 Way Conferences
Please note, kindergarten will have their 3 - Way Conferences on November 27 & 28. More information to follow after Fall Break.
Library News
Whoooo was surprised this week? Mrs. Nixon was! The Davies family presented her with a Kelly Davies original work of art. The hours of skill and passion that was involved in its creation is amazing on its own, but the best part is the idea and inspiration came from his daughter. This beautiful statue looks amazing in our library. Please pop in to see it!
Run Club wrap up!
PARKING/DROP OFF PROTOCOL
We wanted to again include the information we provided last year regarding the policies for the parking lot and flow of both pedestrian and car traffic. Unfortunately, we had incidents already last week that involved unsafe practices. PLEASE be respectful of the guidelines that have been established. Teachers are enforcing them during supervision and your children are being taught these guidelines for their own safety. We don’t want them to be confused about what they should be doing and making unsafe choices. If you aren’t sure, ask your son or daughter - they will know!! If you have any questions please ask PSC or office staff. Please be respectful every year there are instances of parents yelling and arguing with each other because “there is no parking!”. We are all dealing with the same parking restrictions - the expectation should not be that the rules are different for some. Let’s work together. We had many positive changes last year so let’s keep it up!
The picture below shows flow of vehicle traffic, as well as marked parking. Please note that Jean Vanier administration has no say in marked parking. It is established by the county. We are in talks with Glen Allen School to ensure their parents are using their marked stalls effectively to allow room for our families. Please note this diagram also marks the Drop Off Zone. There is NO parking here at the end of the day for pickup. In the mornings, you can pull in to QUICKLY drop off your child. That means your child should be ready to jump out, on the curb side. Please do not park and get out of your vehicle. If you need to get out, drive around and pull into an appropriate parking stall.
If you are parked in the middle rows of traffic, students have been taught to travel to the marked crosswalk to cross and then cross again in front of the single row of traffic. There are supervisors in both of these locations to assist drivers and students with crossing safely. Crossing here requires supervisors to only stop one lane of traffic at a time. Crossing through the drop off zone (to get to the sidewalk that runs between the middle rows of parking) is NOT a safe option. There are two merging lanes of traffic which reduces the ability to see and react safely. We recognize that making this “loop” may feel inconvenient, but we trust that the extra 30 seconds is worth it to everyone if it means reducing risk to our students.
As we are an "Apple" School promoting active living perhaps consider parking further from the school and walking to the school to help reduce traffic issues at the school! Or if the weather cooperative perhaps think of biking to school with your child! Help set a positive example for our students!
