Sign Up for a West Des Moines Pubic Library Card

Did you know: You can borrow books, ebooks, audiobooks, STEM kits, and so much more from the West Des Moines Public Library? To make it even easier to access these resources, the WDMCS teacher-librarian team is excited to announce a collaboration that will connect ALL PK-12 WDMCS students* with a West Des Moines Public Library card!

To get a library card, any WDMCS student in grades PK-12 can sign up through an online form. The first sign-up window will be Oct. 5-16. Watch for an online sign-up form from your classroom teacher or Language Arts teacher!

WDMCS will share the information securely with the West Des Moines Public Library. Then, public librarians will create library cards for all students who sign up. Watch for more pick-up information from your home school’s teacher-librarian in early November!

*Library cards are available to students only, but students do not have to be West Des Moines residents to sign up.

Big picture

Parking Lot Protocol

We understand our parking lot drop-off and pick-up process can be time-consuming. However, we need all families to follow the procedures to ensure our students are safe. Please remember these guidelines:

  • Do not drop off your student or stop for any reason along Vine Street.
  • Do not pull into the bus lanes along Vine Street.
  • Do not allow your student to exit the vehicle until you have pulled up to the curb in the parking lot.
  • Please drive slowly through the parking lot and on Vine St.

Building Opening and Closing Hours

Each morning the building will open to students at 7:20 am. Students riding their bikes, walk or receiving rides should be using the west entrance that faces Grand Avenue. Students riding the bus will use the south entrance that faces Vine Street. We ask that students continue to social distance during this time.

Each afternoon the building will close to students 10 minutes after the last bell. This would be 2:45 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and would be 2:00 on Wednesdays. We are asking that all students have left the Stilwell campus 20 minutes after the last bell.

After The Bell

After the bell is an additional opportunity at the end of the day to get support with learning from a certified teacher. It will start on Tuesday, September 8th in the Stilwell cafeteria. Students will receive an additional snack using social distancing and are welcome to stay until 4:00 pm. After the bell will run each week Monday-Thursday.
