7th Grade Fish Dissections

Mrs. Wicher's science class enjoyed a hands-on experience dissecting fish while learning about organs and body systems!

Theater Arts Opinion Speeches

Our theater arts students did an outstanding job presenting speeches they composed over topics they are passionate about. The students chose very mature topics, including: the effects of social media on teens, expressing individuality, ALS, flat taxes, shark finning, emotional issues and teens, as well as many more. We are very proud of the job they did!

Closed Campus During STAAR Testing

One of our favorite things is seeing parents on our campus and we know that you enjoy seeing your child. However, please know on each day of STAAR tests, we will have a closed campus. Parents will not be be able able to come on campus to volunteer or eat with their child, and we will also not be able to deliver anything to the students (lunches, items left at home, clothes, etc.). We hope you understand and we appreciate your support to give our students the best possible testing environment. Thank you!

Rachel's Challenge

The Rachel's Challenge lesson today was about a boy, Hunter, who lives in McKinney and just celebrated his 9th birthday. Each grade level made Hunter a special birthday card which will be delivered this weekend. We put together a special birthday video for Hunter which you can view by clicking HERE.

note from the nurse

Spinal Screenings for 6th graders will be provided during their PE class the week of March 23-27, 2015. The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined.

The procedure for screening is simple. Screeners who have been specially trained will look at your child’s back while he/she stands and then bends forward. For this examination, boys and girls will be seen separately and individually.

ALL STUDENTS MUST REMOVE THEIR SHIRT FOR THIS EXAM. FOR THIS REASON, WE REQUEST THAT GIRLS WEAR A TANK TOP, TUBE TOP, SPORTS BRA OR A TWO PIECE SWIMSUIT TOP UNDERNEATH THEIR SHIRT DURING THE EXAM.

Parents will be notified of the result of the screen only if professional follow-up is necessary. This screening procedure does not replace your child’s need for regular health care and check-ups.

According to state law, all students in 6th grade must receive the spinal screenings. If, for religious reasons, you do not wish to have your child screened, you are to submit an affidavit of religious exemption to the school no later than March 23, 2015.

Please contact Amy Gordon, the school nurse, at 903-482-8878 if you would like additional information.
