Dessau Elementary will foster a child's love of learning
and support academic and social growth.
Did someone say two weeks till Spring Break!! :)
Yeah! It's almost here! Keep those students focused and keep blissful images of your upcoming vacation dancing in your head! Yes, we are a little tired, but reflect on all of the awesome things that happened this week: Students placed at the Regional Science Fair, successful career fair, named our teacher / humanitarian / rookie teacher of the year, had a glowing school dance and ended the week with a celebration of black history! These are all things to be proud of! This coming week we will draw for the the two perfect attendance bikes, just in time for Spring! Great things continue to happen at DES thanks to your hard work, dedication and creativity! THANK YOU!
Let's keep this going!!
I will post at least one positive observation about others and one positive observation about myself on the wall in our staff hallway (on the way to the lounge). Feel free to post more than one positive observation :)
Kudos:
- Congratulations to Mr. Watson, Ms. Brandenburg and Ms. Garza!!!!
- Ms. Henry for organizing and facilitating a wonderful career day. A nice balance of professions to keep the attention of all students. Thank you!
- Ms. Freeman: Another successful black history month performance! Even our PK students were engaged! Wow!
- Ms. Andresen for supporting our Science Fair students all the way to Regionals!
- Ms. Crow for being a remarkable bouncer at our school dance (and a good dancer!)
- Ms. Hellmund: thanks for being our first teacher to complete a data talk! Great job with your data!
- Safety team for supporting our practice events earlier this week.
- Ms. Barbour for keeping our TELPAS going strong!
- Jessica for taking lead on running the accountability piece of our practice drills!
- Specials teachers: thanks for allowing our PTO fundraiser to be launched with you!
- To teachers who are routinely posting attendance on time. Thank you!!!
Have a happy last week of February!

PBIS team: Thank you for problem solving dismissal. Can't wait to hear what our plan is!
Keep your ideas flowing to your PBIS committee member!
Things to know...
- TELPAS testing (on-line) is still going strong. Please be aware of any testing going on around you. We will let you know when it is completed.
- Increased awareness and supervision of students at recess needs to be increased! Remember, students can't just run off and play anywhere. They should be somewhere close so you can hear and see what they are doing. You should be able to provide assistance immediately if anything goes wrong. Please spread out and make sure you are vigilant with your supervision.
- If you are planning on taking a day off for a medical appointment or personal day, you are required to submit the request to me more than a week in advance. I can't approve every request, so please submit them as soon as you can. I appreciate those of you I have had to deny permission to for being so flexible and rescheduling.
- Revisiting brain breaks: brain breaks are not an outside / recess activity. ALL brain breaks will take place within your classroom, lasting 1-3 minutes. Instructional time must be protected.
- SLO's: Make sure you are collecting your data points :)
- Remember that next week is Dr. Seuss week which means DRESS UP DAYS! Look at the calendar for details! Feel free to wear jeans IF you are participating!!
Who won some extra help this week?
Ms. Esparza & Ms. Swetnam
Ms. Riojas has had a change in her availability but wants to keep this going! She can help you grade papers, cut things out, anything from home. I will give her your names so you can arrange the details :)
