Shape Montana Update

October 2016

No Legislature Left Indoors

Elections are upon us! While I am sure most of us are getting tired of the ads, news stories, and everything else that comes with them, as Health Enhancement teachers, we have a great opportunity in front of us. One of the initiatives of Shape Montana, along with Shape America, is the Take a Legislator to School opportunity. Ultimately what happens here, you contact your local legislator and invite them to come participate in your class for a period, day, or whatever time frame they have available. This is a great way for us to show the great things we are doing in Physical Education and continue to keep us on their minds as they discuss ESSA and other school funding. Reg Hageman has put together some great resources for how to find those running for the Legislature in your district and also ideas on how to invite them. Please check this out and share your pictures with us of your legislator! (bkessler@helenaschools.org) Click here to visit those resources.

Award Nominations

We are still looking for nominations for our Shape Montana Awards. Please take time to go to our website and look at the award options and nominate your peers who are doing great activities, lessons, and work for the students of Montana. All forms need to be submitted to Nancy Stock at stock.nancy59@gmail.com.

Membership

Be sure to renew your Shape Montana membership, even if you were unable to attend the conference this year. For $25 you will begin to get access to Success Stories (see story below), networking opportunities, and the continued representation and advocacy work being done by your Shape Montana board. Membership forms are available here.

Success Stories!

We all know that we have great lessons that show how, as Physical Education teachers, we have overcame small spaces, being kicked out of the gym, and other obstacles that present themselves to us on a daily basis. So why not share those successes with the rest of us? If you are willing, please fill out the form here, I will then put a mock-up together for your approval, and then we will add it to our rotation that we will begin sending out to our members on a quarterly basis. Don't be afraid to share, there is bound to be 1-2 or even 125 of us that could benefit from your success!

2017 Shape Montana Conference

Please plan on joining us at Bozeman High School in Bozeman, MT for the 2017 Shape Montana Annual Conference. The Conference will be held July 31-August 1.
