Update to Exam Exemptions for the 2022 - 2023 SY (Per the Student Code of Conduct):
Academic Final Exam Exemption:
As the end of the semester is approaching, please begin reviewing the types of exemptions offered . For the Attendance exemption, this exemption was formally the General exemption. The criteria for this exemption has changed from the previous school year. Each semester, as a reward for academic excellence, a student may choose to exempt up to three final exams (if the student is enrolled in seven classes at the home school) or two final exams (if the student is enrolled in six or fewer classes at the home school) provided the student has a grade of 95 or higher in the selected course(s).
Attendance Exam Exemption(Change from the previous school year):
Each semester, as a reward for exemplary attendance, students may exempt one final exam provided the student has five or less unexcused attendance transactions (including tardy to school) that semester and has a grade of 70 or above in the class he/she
wants to exempt.
Senior Final Exam Exemption (SECOND SEMESTER ONLY)
A high school senior who will be graduating at the end of the second semester may exempt the final exam in any course(s) provided the senior has a grade of 80 or higher in that course. A senior may use the Attendance Final Exam Exemption in lieu of the Senior Final Exam Exemption if the student chooses.
For all final exam exemptions:
- If a student qualifies for both general and academic final exam exemptions, the student must choose only one type of
- exemption (academic or attendance). A student may not combine the two types of exemptions.
- A student may not exempt the first or second semester final exams for courses with an End of Course
- Milestones assessment, AP courses, and IB courses.
- Final exams in dual enrollment courses are under the jurisdiction of the post-secondary institution. FCPS final exam exemption
- procedures do not apply to dual enrollment courses.
Parent Volunteer
The Counseling Dept. is looking for 2 parents who would like to serve on our Advisory Committee. The purpose of the council is to provide feedback on program goals (developed and explained by the school counselors), review program results (based on data presentations by the school counselors), make recommendations about the school counseling program, and serve as an advocate for the program. The commitment is minimal - only two meetings per year (March and April). The meetings will take place at 8:30 a.m. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Travis at travis.jen@fcboe.org
Tiger Academy
Happy November, Tiger Academy! The end of the first semester will be upon us very soon. Here are a few important things to remember:
The last week of school before the holiday break (December 12-16) will be busy with exams. Please be sure not to make any appointments for that week so that your student doesn’t miss an exam.
Exams comprise 20% of the students semester grade, so preparation is important.
All classes count! If a student does not pass for the semester, the half credit for that class is not earned and must be recovered through summer school or credit recovery.
Last week we held a Tiger Power Session after school to offer help for any students who may have been struggling in 3 or more classes when grades were reported at the 9-week grading period. If you were not able to attend the session but would like to review the information covered, you can visit this LINK.
