Community Day

Today was a way for our school to reach out to our Gates Mills community in a helpful and positive way before the end of the school year. We felt it was important to remind the community it truly does 'take a village' to raise a child. Some students worked at Sara's getting ready for the lunch crowd, others worked at St. Christopher's church planting flowers and a few students organized the letters on the display board outside the Community House. We had students washing a fire truck and police cars, planting in our Gates Mills garden, cleaning up the Gates Mills arboretum and our Trepal Trail that is located on our school campus. It was a fantastic outcome that we hope happens every year and more of the community will get involved. A special thanks to Ms. McCullough for organizing this great community day!.

Fifth Grade Graduation

Fifth grade graduation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th, at 7pm at the Gates Mills Community House. Students should arrive by 6:45pm to allow time for family picture taking before the ceremony. Girls should wear dresses or skirts and boys should wear dress slacks, shirts and ties. Invitations were sent home a few weeks ago. Parking will be available at the Community House, along Chagrin River Road and in the lower school parking lot. Because of the large class size, please try to limit your guests to six people or less. Any questions, please call the school office.

Special Honors of Graduating Seniors

Each year, the PTC is pleased to present a scholarship to an accomplished Gates Mills School alum who is graduating from Mayfield High School. This week at the MHS Honors Assembly, the PTC was pleased to present a $500 scholarship to Alissa B. Alissa will be attending Washington and Lee University in the fall. Congratulations, Alissa, and best of luck!

Inside the Idea Lab with Mrs. Stephens

This was our last week in Idea Lab for the 2018/19 school year. We had so much fun! We talked about all of the changes in the Idea Lab over the last year and thought about which activities were our favorites, then we did those things. Popular choices included constructing with the big blue blocks, building with Plus-Plus and Lego bricks, and using the interactive TV. Assembling puzzles, creating with Magna-Tiles, and designing working roller coasters were also chosen by quite a few students.

Our Idea Lab looks fantastic! We love the new signage that designates the different areas, and all of the final decorating touches look great. The students and I would like to thank Mrs. Bender and the Gates Mills School PTC for their dedication and hard work in making the Idea Lab such an amazing space with so many wonderful activities to have at Gates Mills Elementary School!

If your student still has missing library books, please get them in before the last day of school. Many students took home summer reading materials this Thursday. Remember, if their name is written in permanent ink or the barcode is covered up, the book or magazine is theirs to keep. Check out your local branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library for great summer reading programs starting very soon!
