Inside the Idea Lab with Mrs. Stephens
This was our last week in Idea Lab for the 2018/19 school year. We had so much fun! We talked about all of the changes in the Idea Lab over the last year and thought about which activities were our favorites, then we did those things. Popular choices included constructing with the big blue blocks, building with Plus-Plus and Lego bricks, and using the interactive TV. Assembling puzzles, creating with Magna-Tiles, and designing working roller coasters were also chosen by quite a few students.
Our Idea Lab looks fantastic! We love the new signage that designates the different areas, and all of the final decorating touches look great. The students and I would like to thank Mrs. Bender and the Gates Mills School PTC for their dedication and hard work in making the Idea Lab such an amazing space with so many wonderful activities to have at Gates Mills Elementary School!
If your student still has missing library books, please get them in before the last day of school. Many students took home summer reading materials this Thursday. Remember, if their name is written in permanent ink or the barcode is covered up, the book or magazine is theirs to keep. Check out your local branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library for great summer reading programs starting very soon!

Last Day of School
Should you desire to take your child(ren) home after the clap-out or picnic, it is imperative you sign him/her out in the school office. As we are all concerned about the safety of our students, it is critical we take the necessary steps to account for their location.
Field Day - Wednesday, May 29th
Our Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29th. Lake Metroparks will be running our Field Day and our PTC has graciously agreed to pay for this activity! The Metroparks will be bringing their own volunteers to help with this event.
Information was sent home with all students on May 1st by grade levels. A Lake Metroparks Disclaimer & Release form was also attached to each packet. This form must be completed and returned to the school office as soon as possible for your child to participate in Field Day. Please refer to the downloads below. Thanks in advance for your continued support.
Pirate Adventure
Grades K – 2 will be participating in a Pirate Adventure activity. The activity will take place from 8:30 - 9:30am. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather and bring a water bottle. Grades K – 2 have been divided into two teams with no team colors.
Survivor Challenge
Grades 3-5 will be participating in a Survivor Challenge activity. Their activity will take place from 9:45 - 11:15am. All students should dress appropriately for the weather and bring a water bottle. The students were broken down into color groups for grades 3 – 5 and should wear their designated color to school on the 29th. Please refer to the 3-5 teams download.

Student Health Services
It is a Mayfield School Policy that an adult pick up and drop off medications that are kept at school. You will need to pick up any remaining medication by the last day of school. We cannot store medications over the summer. Medication remaining in the clinic on Wednesday, May 29th, will be disposed of.
If you anticipate your student will need medication for the 2019/20 school year, please have new medication forms completed by the physician before school starts in August. Forms and medication from the previous school year cannot be used.
All Health services forms are located on the Mayfield Schools website at www.mayfieldschools.org, click on Families and then scroll down to and click on Student Health Services. Along the right side will be forms to download and print for your student's specific needs.
For students with medications for allergic reactions: Parents should complete the Mayfield City Schools Allergy Action Plan and a separate medication form for each medication.
Please have all forms and medication at school by August 15, 2019. Forms can be returned to school via fax (440-995-7505) or emailed to jslovasky@mayfieldschools.org. If you have any questions, please contact the Clinic (440-995-7503) by May 29th.
