Hamilton's Happenings
May 16, 2014
READER'S WORKSHOP
Each child has chosen the animal he/she would like to research. We are using our reading strategies (picture clues, labeling, sounding out, thinking about what would make sense) to learn more about each animal. With the help of our 5th Grade buddies, we have written a report about specific characteristics of the animal we chose.
MATH
2-D Shapes-square, circle, rectangle, triangle, and hexagon
3-D Shapes-cone, cylinder, sphere, and cube
To understand a 2-D shape is flat and a 3-D shape is a solid.
WRITER'S WORKSHOP
The students have been given choices of things (swings or the slide) they like the best, then they write why that is their preference.
SCIENCE
Now that we know the animal classifications, we are sorting animals and books into their specific group. After creating an object graph with our books, we discovered we have more mammal books than birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
