Message from the principal...
Our students are in the full swing of their school year and they have had such a strong start! We are excited to share the excitement of the start of the year at our re-scheduled Back to School Night next week on Tuesday September 20th. Thank you all for your flexibility as we made a last minute pivot, on our previous date, because of the extraordinary heat we experienced last week.
Students have been relearning the routines of campus, especially as it pertains to eating outside and playing at recess. Students have now moved back to eating inside the MUB due to weather related concerns as well as the amount of trash that accumulates outside as a result of students eating there everyday. We are so lucky to be on a beautiful campus next to the hills, but we share this space with our wildlife and the coyotes have been enjoying all the trash that is left around campus, and they do come to visit during school hours, which we'd like to avoid. Inside the MUB, students have done an amazing job of cleaning up their trash, and it allows us to fully clean up spills and crumbs that can be left behind that cannot be fully cleaned outside. Students eating in the MUB has helped them really focus on eating more of their food during lunch time so they are ready to finish out their school day on a full stomach.
Last, but not least, we were happy to have opened the Dolphin Depot for the first time last week! Our middle school students now have their own Dolphin Depot upstairs that is open on Thursdays during their lunch recess, 1st-5th grade visits the store on Friday during their lunch recess and TK and Kinder students visit during their afternoon. Students have been proudly demonstrating all the qualities of our Dolphin CREED and earning themselves Dolphin tickets that they get to spend at the store. They can earn these tickets from any adult on campus and it's one small way we celebrate the great ways our students show their Character, Respect, Empathy, Eagerness, and how they can Dream (CREED). We hope you all have an amazing weekend and we hope to see you at Back to School Night on Tuesday.
With Gratitude,

Many Hispanic Americans trace their roots to the cultures of the indigenous peoples of the Americas -- including the Arawaks (Puerto Rico), the Aztecs (Mexico), the Incas (South America), the Maya (Central America), and the Tainos (in Cuba, Puerto Rico and other places).
Some trace their roots to the Spanish explorers -- who in the 1400s set out to find an easier and less costly way to trade with the Indies. Other Latinos trace their roots to the Africans who were brought as slaves to the New World. For purposes of the U.S. Census, Hispanic Americans today are identified according to the parts of the world that they or their ancestors came from, including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Spain, or the nations of Central or South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) we recognize the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture.
Meet Marisol McDonald, a spunky young girl with fiery red hair and brown skin who wears green polka dots with purple stripes, mixes English and Spanish, and eats peanut butter and jelly burritos. Everyone tells her she doesn't match, until one day she tries matching — and discovers that it makes her miserable. At the end of the day, however, her teacher shares a special secret with her and lets her know she likes Marisol for who she is: a creative, bilingual Peruvian-Scottish-American! This poignant story, based on Monica Brown's childhood, celebrates each individual's uniqueness and reminds children that it's ok not to fit into boxes that other people may put you into. Where the paleta wagon rings its tinkly belland carries a treasure of icy paletasin every color of the sarape . . .
As she strolls through her barrio, a young girl introduces readers to the frozen, fruit-flavored treat that thrills Mexican and Mexican-American children. Create a masterpiece, make tough choices (strawberry or coconut?), or cool off on a warm summer's day--there's so much to do with a paleta.
This is the story of a treasure thought to be lost in a batch of tamales; of a desperate and funny attempt by Maria and her cousins to eat their way out of trouble; and the warm way a family pulls together to make it a perfect Christmas after all.

Back to School Night & Minimum Day on 9/20! (Thursday schedule)
We are looking forward to seeing families at our Back to School Night on September 20th! Please arrive no earlier than 5:45 to mingle with families on the blacktop!
- TK-5 classroom doors will open at 6:00 PM please do not go to the classrooms until 6:00 PM. At 6:05 you will hear a message from me through the speakers. After which, your child's teacher will begin their presentations. Back to school night will end at 6:45 for TK-5. Please be mindful of exiting the classrooms promptly as the teachers have had a long day and have to return to teach the following day.
- 6-8th grade back to school night will begin at 7:00 PM. Please do not head to the upper school until 6:55 and enter classrooms only after 7pm. You will follow your child's daily bell schedule. Have your child share their schedule with you before you arrive so you are best prepared. Each period will be approximately 10 minutes long. You will hear a bell ring between each period to alert you to go to the next classroom. Back to school night will end at 8:00. Teachers need to be able to go home to get rested for teaching on Wednesday!
In the 6th-8th grade hallways there will be a long blank butcher paper on the wall for you to write a message to your child if you wish. We would love for them to see it upon their return on Wednesday!! Please be sure to stop by and write a message for your child!
Please Note: Back-to-School Night is not the time to individually conference with teachers. If you wish to discuss concerns about your child, please schedule a private appointment.
