Message from the Superintendent

Dear Emery Unified School District,

As we celebrate Black History Month and the efforts African American leaders have given so that all students can experience an equitable education, let’s also look to the future and support our students so that they may approach the future with tenacity.

Many historic African American leaders were in our shoes, at school, as teachers, educators and students. African American educators pioneered many critical academic support systems including early childhood education and community involvement programs, the start of parent-teacher associations, and Black Studies, just to name a few achievements. Our students can be the next leaders if they believe it, and if we support them.

In our classrooms, we are committed to promoting respect and engagement with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. Our students thrive when they are surrounded by diversity and respect for their peers.

Enrollment is now open, and we look forward to meeting our new students and families in the fall. Please contact our office for more information.

As we approach CAASPP testing, it's important to remember that coming to school every day is critical to knowledge retention and will help your student build their learning achievements for the next grade. Please stay home when you are sick but come to school when you feel better.

COVID-19 safety is still important. Please continue to practice COVID prevention methods. As a school district we will keep you updated as conditions change.

Let’s continue to work together in support of our students. Your encouragement as parents, guardians, mentors and teachers is critical to the students’ success.

Sincerely,

Dr. Quiauna Scott

Superintendent

Special Activities at Anna Yates Elementary During Lunch!

Lunchtime on Mondays and Fridays at Anna Yates Elementary is a special time for students! They have the opportunity to participate in art and dance activities. It is a wonderful time for students to explore their creativity and take a break during the day in our indoor space. Students play games, build their social emotional learning skills, make friends and use new furniture that enhances their experience. We make sure our students feel welcome at school and around their peers.

CAASPP Testing

Many of our elementary school students will experience California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing for the first time this year! CAASPP test results give us an opportunity to see how our students are progressing academically. It is important that students are well-prepared for the tests, and that includes preparing at home. Please ensure your child is getting a good night's sleep, eating before school, and arriving at school on time. We appreciate the parent support during the testing period, and always.

Absences

Please reserve absences for students when they are sick. If your student is absent from school, please contact teachers to receive work, so that your student does not fall behind. Chronic absence harms student knowledge retention and their ability to succeed in school. Students are welcome to use the Emery School Based Health Center during school if they need medical attention.

Now Hiring

We are hiring for a variety of positions! We welcome our Emery High grads to join our team as after school program leaders and more.

If you or anyone you know is interested in working in education, we are also hiring Substitute Teachers. Please apply through SWING.
